My first thread attempt at a Japanese PST
on: March 18, 2016, 01:32:24 PM
A few years back when we started the PST chronological timeline we all start gathering PSTs like crazy :D If you wanted to be like the cool kids (Like Benner  ;) ) you had to have a large font PST :ahhh not sure if we found out of of those with the large font came from Japan before or after the fact that he had one  Anyways as we were all paying out silly money for all the PSTs we could afford I spotted one  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh The elusive large font Leatherman PST :tu: I put a bid in on it and a few days later I won :o Then a couple more days and guess what :mail:  :multi: I was excited to open it up and see what was inside just like a kid on Christmas :D Here's what I got

This one has the solid rivets as seen :D

and let's not forget the old school leather sheath

 Only problem with this one is that one of the tabs on the file side has broken and I hate to send it in for warranty as all I will probably get back is a Rebar instead of this tool because of the rivets :( Alas I shall keep the broken tool as is :D

Hope that this has been good enough for my merit badge :pok:

Broken and all I am still pleased with this one   I have another early one that is in near mint condition that I forgot to take pics of last night ::) It has same tool set and may be a bit older but with knurled screws (so it's not a Japanese made one)  I think it may have been with some of the first that came out of Portland :ahhh

Just realized I forgot to put badge in the title  :bnghd:

Anywhoo I am actually rather pleased with the way the pics came out as this is my phone camera :tu: I took a few more pics of other tools as well and you might get to see those in the next day or so ;) :tu:

Because of YOU and Benner and JSews and DaveK and all the fine members whose posts can be seen in the Chronology early on I was infected.  Early I sought after PSTs but realized it was JPSTs that really excited me.  I too got my first one with a few bumps and bruises but loved it non the less.  To help spread the addiction hobby I gifted it to my roommates son.

Its always great to get the sheath along with the tool  :tu:

Glad I could help spread the disease hobby along to somebody else :D

Those early PSTs really show more of a handcrafted look than the offerings of today :) That doesn't mean that I still don't want most if not all of them or a variation of them :D

I tend to only buy non dated PSTs and JPSTs.  The earlier the better

I'm so thankful to all you guys who posted in the Chronology  :salute:

We knew next to nothing when we first started that thread  :ahhh we had no idea how much knowledge we would gain on the little Ole PST :o that thread has sure came along way since then and we know considerably more now  I actually at one time had a PST that didn't have a date code in one handle but had one on the other. One of our members here has that one now. He sent me a CC Supertool and I sent him that as thanks :tu:

I cannot tell you how many hours I poured thru those pages.  You, DaveK and JSews really filled the pages.  There are several other member who also brought a lot to the table and I'm sorry I don't have their names at the moment.  That has to be my all time favorite thread here on MTO.

I spent many nights drooling over some of the tools in that thread, I actually still do.  If anyone is currently reading this thread I highly suggest you go to the Chronology now and take a gander.  It really is an amazing thread when you consider how much went into it and how much those guys put into it and learned.

We are all so much more knowledgeable as a result.   :salute: to you and to all those early contributors.

Not having a wife help  :tu: however when I was in Vegas taking picture of my Swisschamp my friend rolled her eyes.  She asked if i was really going to take a picture to which I replied of course I am.

My daughter just smiles as well as my roommate.

Start to ask her questions like, is this lighting right?, what do you think about the back ground?, should I use my ( blank ) tool?, or my ( blank ) tool?

Mainly I get, if your gonna be weird just don't tell me about it :D

She is rather supportive of me and my hobbies normally unless she thinks I am sharing my oddness uniqueness with the world
