All that and a whopping 1.44mb of data!  Dang!

Def
Hey, with the right tool you could put 2.88mb on those... of course you could never read it back again because the data was corrupt but the important part was that you could put 2.88mb on it...
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

640k ought to be enough for anybody

I remember being the only guy at work who had one of these new fangled USB thingys.  My boss kept asking if he could borrow it to move docs from one system to another, until I pointed out that they were so small that he could still use a disk.

Pfah, Snobs.
What kind of RAM would you need to drive these loads of data?

Not my pic, but essentially the same as my first home computer set-up. :dd:

BBC Machines were what we had at school, though I remember them as working with floppy discs.

We used those, and some had tape, some disk drives.

Then, the mighty Archimedes appeared, I think..

Had the ZX81 and a tape-recorder, got it from the trash so it had 0 software. But I managed to program some cool stuff like a stock-market game where the stock value was calculated at random every day without any regard to the previous day )

Do you carry a flash drive?  If so, what is on it, what type and capacity, and what do you keep on it?

Def

Sandisk Cruzer Glide 8GB

Some Tools for Work and a bootable OS on it. I sometimes also use it for file transfer.
Thinking of it, I maybe should upgrade it somewhen. Probably to a Cruzer Blade 32GB.

Nice!  I still have my ZX81, got it through mail order from a company in New York.  It came as a kit, my first real soldering experience.

My USB drive is part of my SAK. I built a custom 58mm Drifter with LED/pen scales and the drive layer from a Victorinox Slim. It's been my go to EDC knife and USB for a couple years now.

Usually I carry some usb flash drive, as one of these: Vic's Swissbit / fake chinese Swissbit / micro sd card reader with ofc micro SD.
Storage space is no less than 8 GB, till now I use them to general file transfer, but I'm going to have scanned most important documents, and basic portable software.
Sometimes, when I forgot my USB, I use my phone in pair with Micro USB =>USB cable, as portable disk.

on my keychain, I always carry a 32 Gb USB key. I usually have files on there that are important and couldn't live without. Under the protection of a 256 Bit Encryption, I even carry a Jpg copy of my last will and testament. All four of my adult children have the pass code/word.

A few years back let's say... I used to use a punching machine to write "code" on a perforated card. a stack of card would make up the software program.

We thought that perforated tape wound up on a reel was innovative and a time saver.

Heck the hardware (computer) in question was using volatile mem, all 32 Kb of it. Configured in 4 X 8Kb Drawers...yes I said drawers; about two feet wide, one foot tall, and three feet deep.

I carry a 32gb usb/micro usb that's android otg built in on my house/car key chain.  Otg is on the go so you can plug it into any android device and it sees it as memory.  I also carry a standard 64gb usb on my work key chain thats attached to my security access card and office keys.

128 gig sticks were handed out like candy at my former work. I used my mainly for pics of completed projects, project notes, and order tracking sheets. I use the 3.0 for storage in my surface pro 3 for quick access as my SP3 has 128 of memory built in and a 128 samsung sd card in it. I keep a couple of USB drives in whatever bag i carry.

Here is my Flash-EDC: (in bold is current EDC)
In the order of purchase,
Emtec 2GB
Kingston 2GB (that I bought in a shop but was a fake, it died one week after purchase and had terrible transfert speed)
Emtec 8GB
PNY attaché 8GB (that died in like 2 months for no reason)
Emtec 16GB USB 3.0, that I used a lot as live-USB medium but is too big to stay in my pocket everyday
Emtec 16GB
LACIE Key 16GB
PNY 32GB
, currently used as multi-system live-USB medium (w/ Knoppix, DSL, Mint, BL, Manjaro, R.I.P, memtest86+ and a few other tools)
Those last 3 are stored in a pouch in my bag.

I EDC HDDs (2.5") the last 12 years or so. First I used an iRiver 40GB as such, then WD 80GB, 320GB, a Seagate 750GB and now a WD again,  1.5 TB. All my older HDDs work and I use them on TV,  loaded with documentaries and movies.
I also EDC some USBs. One is used for my presentations, another is loaded with portable programs, another has Duke Nukem 3D portable on it, and another a selection of "The Soundtrack of my Life", music that was playing as I grew up (mostly rock and metal). This last one will be on my new car from now on.

I usually have a tiny little Verbatim Store and Go chip on my keys but sometimes I like to have something a little more "Man Jewelry" like.
These are a couple I made recently. The wood one is a double ended 8GB which is handy to transfer stuff to my phone and the copper/brass one is 16GB. I have another wood drive which is 32GB but it's not finished yet.

An 8GB flash disk never leaves my bag. I forgot about the brand, though, it has a custom wooden housing.

I carry an SD card reader and several cards with me in my laptop bag.  I have it with me nearly everywhere, so I guess it could be considered EDC.

The reader + cards is more versatile than a USB drive, IMO.

Those are gorgeous!

Did you hook up the needle on the end so you can tell at a glance how much space is left on that drive?  :D
