Tough Tool Question
on: April 15, 2016, 11:48:36 PM
I recently snagged a US made Tough Tool for $8 shipped off Ebay because the Phillips driver was destroyed.  I figure I can live without it, but I see that a number of sellers have the parts, which are old stock leftovers from the Ellenville, NY plant.   I was able to find the whole handle that had the Phillips in it for $5, but looks different from the one this Tough Tool has.

How do I take it apart, replace the Phillips, and put everything back together?

I think they are riveted. That complicates things.

You can grind/drill/drive out the rivet pretty easily. Best to have access to a drill press though.
Two easy options for re-assembly:
1...rivet it back together with brass stock cut to length, or
2...Get a well-matching pan head rivet from a good hardware store.

#1 will work fine, but not cosmetically match. #2 may end up almost indistinguishable from "new".
