55 Years Old Polish Army Knife
on: May 02, 2016, 01:09:31 PM
Hello good people ;) I'd like to show you my very old SAK, made in Poland. It belonged to my grandfather. He won it in shooting competition when he served in the army. It is at least 55 years old. I remember that this knife was always in my grandad's pocket, he was repairing everything with this. I have no idea what steel it is. It has some blade play and got glued red scales several times but it's a really old knife. The company which made this knife is named Gerlach. That company was started in 1760 so it has a long, long history. They are still producing knives to this day but only kitchen knives and cutlery. Hope you enjoy the photos :)

The size comparison with Tinker, they share the same tools.

Bigger blade

Small blade

Can opener

Bottle opener

Phillips screwdriver

Punch

Great story, thanks for sharing.

Gerlach is great company and very well known. I own several of their working knives in the style of the Hippeknieps that were common in Germany for a long long time.

Well... actually all of them carry the tangstamp that says "Gerlach, Poland" on them. And a crown above the written lines.

I remember when my grandfather made me and my brother a whistles from the fresh branches. Actually I should try to make one tomorrow and find out if I remember how to make this :)

I remember he cut everything through the food to the leather and wood.
