Question about sak center pins
on: May 02, 2016, 07:27:37 PM
Hey guys, so I've been sanding down 2.5mm pin stock to 2.2 in my drill press. In the process the ends of the pins have become slighty tapered, probably from to much pressure with the sand paper.

Needless to say there will be some amount of play in some of tools and back springs, and it seems that the back side tools already have larger holes than the center springs.

How much will this affect the final result once this is all assembled?

Having popped an in-line awl (2.5mm) into a 91mm frame with a 2.2mm pin, I would say that you should be fine. The pins are very forgiving.

Best of luck!  :salute:

Thanks! I'm looking forward to owning a Woodsman, but I must admit I'm mostly just itching to to mod something

The pins I just removed from 2 of my SAKs measure 2.11mm.  They have the newer style hook so they may be going thinner on the center pins.  Not completely sure since it's the first pair I've disassembled.
