Gerber identification from a video
on: May 04, 2016, 09:22:32 PM
Here's a video of a man in the British forces in a firefight and having a jam, he uses a Gerber to fix it. My untrained eye to Gerber tools would say it's similar to the Suspension but I'm not quite sure.

Both right. Intense vid, EVO ( a Suspension with alternative scales/handles) in action.

Is the Evo better than the Suspension, or are the differences purely cosmetic?

Purely cosmetic.

Gareth is correct - Suspension, Evo, Tread and the Bear Grylls (ultimate?) are the same except for different handles. Good that Guy did not get the Tool Jerseydevil squashed in a shop....

For the money, the Suspension seems to be an ok tool if you can live with the tool loadout, stubby blades and big handle splay.
In a situation like in the vid I´d like to be sure my tool is up to some heavy (ab)use, though and I´d choose something tougher.

The Suspension isn't that bad in my opinion. It's alright if you carry a dedicated blade with it.

I agree, my remark was a hint to an episode where Jerseydevil (?) handled a Suspension in a shop. It must have been faulty, as the pliere head rests broke. The incident may well have been posted before you joined, so I a apologize if you did not understand the reference. I just wanted to express I am glad the Guy in the vid did not get a lemon - There seem to be some around on the lower end Gerbers. If you get a properly made one, it´s an ok tool and worth it´s mones (if bought for US prices, not EU onmes...)
And, just to make that clear, I do like Gerber products.

Yeah, no problems. I was scared for the soldier when I first saw the Multitool he was using, haha. I don't have the most confidence in their tools. Maybe except for the military issued models.

Yeah, that was me breaking a Suspension while handling it in a store. I squeezed the handles together a bit and SNAP! :o
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D
