Self Polished Sideclip?
on: May 13, 2016, 04:50:07 PM
Has anyone done it? The polished version of the Sideclip is pretty and pretty rare, so I'm curious to know if someone has done it themselves. If so, how? Pictures if you have them. Thanks

Just sold my Sideclip on, but looking at it I don't see why a polishing mop (and soap) in the drill press wouldn't do it. I've polished lots of parts on my custom PST2 and Crunch, including the blades which have come up mirror finish.

Ryan1835 polished his beadblasted Sideclip back in the day, but sadly the link to his pics is now broken.
But it can be done quite easily with a great result..  :tu:

Thanks for the replies. I'll have to practice on cheap tools first. I don't want to mess up an expensive tool trying to polish it. I don't understand why the made a matte version. All their other tools have really good finish on them.

Should be able to do it fairly easily. I polished the blades on my Rebar and they came out pretty nice. I started by lightly sanding with 800 grit paper then 1000 and then buffed with jewelers rouge.

That looks good. Why the two different grits?

Old thread, I know.

Yes it can be done. I started with a standard Sideclip that had two logo's on the handles. I used Metal Glo - premium polishing paste and I got a mirror finish.

I did the write-up here: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,67773.msg1321482.html#msg1321482

:like: :like: ooooooooooo shiny!!! I ended up trading for a polished Sideclip so I didn't have to do it myself. But it's good to know it can be done. :tu:

If I could get a shiny one I would not have done the polishing, but alas they are pretty scarce. The only issue I have with mine is that it is so shiny it shows every fingerprint on it.

I imagine the standard polished version is similar to a PST or PST II finish?

From what I remember of the one that I had it was very similar but it may have been more shiny  as I do remember it showing fingerprints as well

Excellent shine job though BTW :like: :like: :like:
