Re-anodize or leave as is?
on: May 15, 2016, 07:46:18 PM
I was in search of a cheap used 93mm alox knife to use for a mod I've been planning and I came across one with an old cross. Finally, I didn't find myself in an existential dilemma about modding a collectible since it was in pretty bad shape.

I decided to totally sand and polish the scales and the result was pretty cool. Now I want opinions about re-anodizing or leaving it as is. Here are a couple pics:

This is a really good look. I'd keep it for sure! :o

Do you mind detailing what you sanded it with?

This is the knife before. I sanded it down with plain sandpaper moving up to 3M micron polishing papers and eventually a well worn 5,000 grit polishing pad with almost no grit left on it. I think the aluminum polishes very well because it is relatively soft. It was done entirely by hand.

Pocket worn alox is as nice looking as new alox, IMO. I'd keep it just like it is.

It's getting taken apart one way or another. It's missing all of the good tools. I just need to find my drill.
