Dating vintage Classics
on: May 24, 2016, 07:49:38 PM
Greetings!  Can anyone help me date an old Classic I have?  It has no key ring, tweezers or toothpick.
Other vintage features are a "Victoria" crossbow blade stamp and a cross cut file.  Also single spring scissors, screw pivot and what appear to be nickel silver liners (not alox).  Here are some pics.  Thanks for any help! (Also I thought this might be a good thread to start about dating these little guys in general!)

Its in great condition ... I would say 1960's based on the tang stamp and file

Thanks Jaydar.  It didn't look quite that good when I first got it but pretty good.  I cleaned it up and polished the scales. Is it possible it could be older (50s, even 40s)?

I started a post on a model 1890 I recently acquired "A very special purchase- a Model 1890!"  April 14 (sorry I don't know how to link to it!)  Would you mind taking a look at it and the questions I have about it?  I think of all the people on the forum, you would be most qualified to help.  Thank you very much.

How did you polish the scales?

Thanks for asking.  If you have a few minutes, the best way to answer that is to show you.

Older ones have exposed rivets similar to their larger counterparts of the same time period.

That is very helpful!  Thank you! I'm also thinking the 60s now.
