I like my Recon1XL. I think most of the hate is because the aggressive style of advertizing and testing they have, and I don't see it particulary nice either. Still there is nothing wrong with their products.

Obviously their products are really ugly... or why else has no-one posted a picture of one yet?

Jokes aside
For me it is availability... Don't see many CS products here.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Can't say I'm a fan of the aggressive style of selling myself.  Not everything needs to be for cutting lumps out of people. ::)  That said I do have a couple of their products and they're perfectly fine.

Love those, if I ever get a proper grinder I'll make something similar.

The Natchez Bowie is the best reminder of how far I've gone down the rabbit hole.........the price used to shock me, now I consider the price (old stock) at a South African shop reasonable even if unaffordable for me.

I like that one too but it's way out of my price range. The Blackjack Warner Moran took most of the wind out of my sails on bowies. Hard to justify anything else. The only other bowie I have on the list is a Von Tempsky like Z man's.

I have a CS Heavy Machete I've been using to do yard work for years. Almost bought a Finn Wolf first time I saw one in a store. Still might have to pick one up eventually.

Even since I saw Tuco Salamanca pulls out a Espada out from his pocket I couldn't get that knife out of my head, I got to have it. A perfect EDC knife for a thug, or a tactical desk jockey like me.

Cold steel is fine.  I think the videos they do are rather silly but the knives are fine.

The last one I bought from them was the Pendleton Mini hunter and its a great little knife.

Are the machetes really that pricey outside the US? Those are Cold Steel's cheapest products here it seems.

And I don't think they're even made here. My Heavy Machete was made in South Africa if I recall.

  I've forgotten about the CS machete, battle axe, Canadian belt knife copy, hollow handled survival knife, SRK's (2) and those South Africa folders (Kudu's?) in both sizes.

Plus this, came in yesterday.

That's everything. I think.
