Questions on this Gerber MT
on: June 20, 2016, 07:53:06 AM
I was recently given this tool. I'm a Leatherman guy and do not know much about these. I think it is an MP600 variant?

The knife blade is junk. Are they replaceable?

Thanks!

Looks like it.
I don't particularly like the newer blades but yes they are replaceable.
If it doesn't work out for you then consider sending it to me for parts.

The tool is very clumsy. I definitely prefer Leatherman tools.

Don't be too quick to dismiss it. They have a lot of good points.

It is pro scout.
Nice tool! Don't know in what condition this tool is, but the main blade is in terrible condition.

It looks great except for the blade. Not sure what happened there.

It's very different from the Leathermans I've been using for 20 plus years...

MPs do feel very different from Leatherman tools. A lot of people make comparison of an AK47 to an AR15. The MP series tools feel rattly by comparison, but just like an AK47, it will still function regardless of poor conditions or abuse.

I think the difference would be quite concerning for someone who started with LM (or especially, Vic) and then transitioned to an MP. I went the other way: i started with an MP400 for 7 years before getting a LM Wave.

The Pro-Scout is the most well rounded of the MP600 series, and is a definite good score :tu: The internal tools are very easily replaceable, you just need to source the parts
