Mint Chocolate Chip is a long running MTO joke.

We used to have a member years ago who insisted he was a 28 year old cop, even though it was very obvious he was only a 13 year old boy.  He claimed to have all of these great and expensive knives, but whenever anyone would ask about them he would insist he'd left it at the cottage, or couldn't take pictures because he'd lost his camera off the side of the boat on a fishing trip.  He was also a big supporter of the SURGE!!!! and would always post it as the SURGE!!!!! so that everyone knew the SURGE!!!! was the bestest tool ever!

This member also used to post threads like "What is your favorite Leatherman?" and "What is your favorite Victorinox" over and over again.  At least twice he started threads entitled "What is your favorite ice cream?" to which he responded with mint chocolate chip each time.

Everyone started poking fun at him by answering "mint chocolate chip" to every question he asked, because no one could take him seriously.  Eventually he was "outed" and, after cheating a bunch of members on trades, he was banned.  People were not happy to find out they had sent sharp things to a minor, but even though he was gone, mint chocolate chip remained.  In fact, it was one of the favorite responses of another member who passed away a couple of years ago, Hawkchucker, and he would post "mint chocolate chip" for no reason in threads, just because he knew it would make people laugh!  Hawkchucker used to push that kid's buttons like there was no tomorrow, just to see what would happen, and honestly, to the kid's credit, he took it all in stride.

Since then it has taken on a life of it's own, and people who have never or will never experience that kid and his stories continue to use it.  In fact, Megan likes mint chocolate chip and I have to laugh every time she orders it because of all of this!
