Going to see Ray Mears
on: June 21, 2016, 10:50:34 AM
Ray is promoting his latest book Out on the Land: Bushcraft Skills in the Northern Forest at the Edinburgh Book Festival and I've got tickets. :woohoo:

I've missed out on the chance to see Ray before so I'm pretty pleased to say the least.  The fact his new book is about my favourite environment is a big bonus.

Now here's what I want to pick your brains about; if I got to give Ray a question what should it be?

ask him why he does not have his own range of multitools, like Les, Bear etc ?

Ask him to sign up here and explain it in detail to all of us...

While we've seen him use a MT before, a Pulse IIRC, it's not an item he's particularly associated with.  That said he's recently teamed up with Spyderco to make a very non-traditional folding knife so perhaps a Bushcraft based MT isn't out of the question.

I should have also given credit for the new book to the joint author Lars Fält.  Sadly it doesn't look like he's going to be at the talk though.

Many of the questions were answered in his book, supplied for a passaround by Grathr

You could get the book signed...

Not much wrong with that but a steep price :o
Still, rather that than a Les Stroud Engage
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

That's pretty cool.  I'd love to get tickets, or whatever, to do an outing with one of these guys.  At least you get to shake the man's hand.

I remember him crediting his Judo teacher as being his main inspiration as well.  I'm hoping they have some advance copies of the new book there, but just in case I'll be bringing along one of his older books with me.

Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob
