Wildland Survival Books for USA?
on: June 21, 2016, 11:18:18 AM
There are decent survival skill books for those of us in the USA, that can cover forest lands, dessert, and everything in between? Been thinking I should hone up on skills I've lost or am not very good at in case SHTF.

Still lacking a pack to throw essentials into if I have to bug out or go on a camp-out.

Can honestly say after the last camp-out, the oilskin drover's coat I had kept me warm. Sure it was a bit wet underneath, between it and the sleeping bag, yet I was as snug as a bug in a rug! The survival blanket I bought ages ago really didn't offer much warmth, but throwing the oilskin over the sleeping bag I was quite warm - 'cept for my elbows that stuck out the edges.

An oilskin blanket might be heavy but am going to try and find me one or two.  :D

Four books which I would recommend are (in no particular order):

Peter Kummerfeldt, Surviving a Wilderness Emergency.
Cody Lundin, 98.6 degrees, The art of keeping your ass alive.
Frank Craighead and John Craighead, revised by Ray Smith and D. Shiras Jarvis. How to Survive on Land and Sea, 4th edition
Michael Sweeney, National Geographic Complete Survival Manual
Vic Ranger and original Gerber Needle-nose Multitool = EDC
Formerly, Vic Huntsman x3
Semper Versitalis

Like docfossil sugested:
Cody Lundins book,
"98.6 degrees, The art of keeping your ass alive", is a good one IMO.

I also like Dave Canterburys book, Bushcraft 101. But that focus more on bushcraft than survival.
