Six months of Spirit.
on: June 23, 2016, 08:48:08 PM
I been carrying my standard Spirit (butter blade) every single day in the past six months, I didn't use it everyday but it was always there for when I needed it. Never failed.

Cool!
How did you carry it?
How do you like it compared to your favourite LM's?

I've been carrying mine for most of the last several months as well.  It is flat, and light, and has no sharp edges, so I simply drop it in my back pocket.  It did come with a really nice leather belt pouch, but as wide as I am anything on my belt gets knocked into doorways and furniture, so the belt pouch lives in a drawer where it has lots of company.

It stays in my belt pouch with my phone.
It is compact, not too heavy and has lots tools.
The butter blade looks funny but cuts well, blunt tip and serration offers something my folders don't.

To me, there are two mainstream of MT platform: Toolbox & OHO.

Spirit is considered a Toolbox design, needs to team up with a folder.

Wave is considered an OHO design, with a pocket clip added it is a great stand alone gadget.

Therefore if I am carrying a folder, Spirit would be my EDC tool.

If I had to pick one tool for the rest of my life, it would be the Spirit.  Pound for pound I honestly don't think you can get a better tool.  Some may have some better features (like OHO, pocket clips or bit drivers) but overall I think it is the finest tool out there.

Wow - You heard it from the boss - And I can't disagree.

If I (had a need to) EDC a pliers based - It would be the Spirit for reasons noted above.

However I do tend to use my Wave more.
It usually sits in a drawer at home, so gets used around the house, or gets chucked in the car for camping trips etc - As I love the bit driver and all the additional capability that brings.

That is good that you can be happy with just one tool for that long :tu: I am similar and can get along carrying the same one for months/years at a time :D Only since I have been back at MTO a lot more lately that I have been changing my work EDC up ;)

Owe and nice pic

I can see why you carry a separate knife, that blade is a bit larger than the Spirit's. Great pic!
May it be as the Pattern has chosen.

I agree with Kampfer that the Spirit is best when paired with a good knife for the cutting tasks.  Lately I've been carrying a CRKT Pazoda with my Spirit.

Agreed, very sweet folder. Just way too large for my needs. Once the blade exceeds 4 inches, it is excessive for what I use it for regularly. My sweet spot is a 3.5 inch blade.

The Spirit really looks good on paper but the wire cutters look like the weak spot on them.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

Worst I dd was put a little stick into them after cutting a fishing hook with the hardwire cutters.

I was able to get some of the stick out with a file.

It's one of the reasons I prefer the replaceable cutters on my LMs.

They're durable, but they have limits. Their other limit is their cutting area. I find it to be small.

I now have a small bolt cutter in my tackle box for dealing with fish hooks and carry an LM for day-to-day wire cutting.

Do I have the need for a blade this big, normally no, thank heaven.
But I do take pride and joy carrying it.

I totally get it and if I thought I could carry it myself without getting those looks I'd be right there with ya in carrying it Kamp  but unfortunately even in the area I am in people aren't as tolerant to blade as they should be :(
