New guy on Dual Survival.
on: June 24, 2016, 03:32:02 PM
I wasn't too thrilled with the new guys on Dual Survival at first.  I knew they would take getting used to.  I was a bit surprised how passionate other viewers were.  I guess they were able to convince the producers to release Bill McConnell.  Grady Powel "survived" however and got a new teammate, Josh James "The Kiwi Bushman".

I immediately liked this new guy.  He's appears to be the real deal and has already given Grady a good ball busting.

I've been trying to determine what knives he carried but I could swear one is much like our Zman carries, Sword big arse bowie.  The other I cannot tell and unfortunately I couldn't get a screen shot.

Anyone watching?

I still have not seen that show.  I guess I will have to try and keep a better eye out for it.

What Season are they on now?

I stopped watching it regularly after Dave left. I've seen a few episodes since, but haven't enjoyed it as much.

I was/am a big fan of Dave as well.  The guy has a way of teaching and talking to his viewers.  I'm also a huge fan of Matt Graham as well.  I dig this dudes approach and especially his attitude.  His skill set is top notch.

I like Cody, I've always like him but IMO he really needs a show by himself.  I think he would do great ( like Dave ) with his own YT Channel.

Exactly the same story for me.  Dave and Cody were great and it wasn't the same after Dave got the heave-ho.

I was blown away by the cool commercials I don't see anymore. All the cool washers and refrigerators!  :o

But the new guy is cool, schooled the army guy too. Probably cuz he has a beard  :salute:

I watched josh James on YouTube for a while and he is also on program called Kings of the wild where he is paired with a chef in which they have to survive with only a few items.

Me too.  Now theres 2 new guy yet again.  These new guys are from naked and afraid.  Not exactly sure what happened to Grady Powell.  Not sure why they just don't bring back Matt Graham.

What I liked about Matt Graham is he's not fighting to survive; he's completely comfortable out in nature, in his element. Some of the others are like that too such as Cody. Even Josh James is just doing what he does every day anyway, just not so well-equipped.

On Naked and Afraid it was a crack-up seeing people who called themselves "Survival Instructors" struggle.

how many people have they already changed? Dave got booted over lying on his resume, Cody lost it with Joe, Joe was booted over stolen valor issues and supposedly being responsible for injuries or death of several crew members while shooting another show (before he got his gig on Dual Survival), Matt and Cody had several lawsuits against each other from what I know and after that I got no idea who was on

oh and there was a rumor that they would bring in Tomahawk Tom from Dude you're screwed

Its not the same at all IMO.  The guys currently on are ok, nothing against them just the chemistry is hard to watch.  Seems like Grady Powell has some serious issues for him to leave the show.  I don't get why Josh James also had to go

Those naked and afraid guys are ok but there's something not fluid about the show.

I gave up on Dual Survival after watching an episode with Joe Teti, for some reason I just don't like him ...

I do like Matt Graham, but since they paired him up with Joe Teti, I still couldn't (wouldn't) watch the show.  I believe the next two were Grady Powell and Bill McConnell, in my opinion they were okay (on the other hand, finding someone better than Joe Teti is not very difficult  ::)).  Bill McConnell was ... weird at times, but still watchable, and I knew Grady Powell from Ultimate Survival Alaska, and he's okay in my book.

The new dual survival series are not yet available over here, but I'll surely give it the benefit of the doubt, and watch it.

But I must say, the original cast, with Dave Canterbury and Cody Lundin is still my favorite by far.  Dave's "Dirty Rotten Survival" was fun to watch , and his Youtube channel is very informative.

Here's what I found on the internet about the new series:

Quote
The Discovery Channel survival reality series Dual Survival season 8 cast will include season seven’s Grady Powell, but has dropped his generally unpopular counterpart Bill McConnell—and the show isn’t just giving Grady one other partner.

Instead, the new season, which debuts June 15, will have “brand new pairs of top-notch survivalists,” according to Discovery. That’s a change for the series, which typically has two central cast members for the entire season; the only exception was season four, when Matt Graham replaced Cody Lundin midway through the season.
The pairs of survivalists who are Dual Survival’s season 8 cast

This season a total five people, including Grady Powell, will be featured throughout the season. The pairings are:

Grady Powell and Josh James, who Discovery says is “an experienced outdoorsman from New Zealand’s South Island. Josh earned his moniker ‘The Kiwi Bushman’ through decades of working as a professional trapper, hunter and whitewater rafting guide in some of the most unspoiled wilderness environments on the planet. Years of living off the grid, hunting and fishing to provide for his family, have taught the Bushman to adopt a patient, balanced approach to survival that frequently clashes with his partner’s more impulsive tactics.”

Grady Powell and Bo McGlone, an Air Force veteran, for a two-episode special episode that represents the show’s first pairing of people from different branches of the armed forces. Discovery says  that after his Air Force service, “Bo served as a military intelligence security contractor in Iraq, Afghanistan and Africa in some of the harshest possible conditions.”

EJ Snyder and Jeff Zausch, from Discovery’s Naked and Afraid. The network’s press release suggests they’ll be featured in three episodes, as they “will tackle harsh obstacles in Moab, the Gulf Coast and Brazil’s Serro Do Mar mountain range.”

They should just stop before they hurt themselves.........looks so fake I'm scared somebody's going to bump their head against a teleprompter......

If (re)watch from the start it becomes clear the premise of the story is the interaction between a military type and a naturalist/survivalist.

Considering how things turned out, it almost seems like Cody rubbed off big time of Dave!  :D

Of the new bunch, I only found Grady Powell and Josh James acceptable.....but not great.

Messieurs Naked and Afraid really don't do it for me, I could go all nasty and sarcastic, but I'll leave it at "my Tom Brown Tracker is longer and stupidter than yours........and has it's own acronym"  :P  :pok:

as far as I  am concerned naked and afraid was just porn.

It may surprise a few but I never bothered to watch it. Sitting there, with other people, some young, some old, watching nudists run around.... It is just too weird and embarrassing.

You really do not see anything...so not porn at all. Not exactly a good show either as I have only watched a couple of episodes. I find the whole premise rather tepid.

As for Dual Survival..what I can't understand, why would anyone want to go on that show seeing how often they change the cast. That to me would be considered a loss leader in my books.

I am aware of the fact that they cover/blur bits, but the only reason i can see for them going around naked is to sexually arouse the audience. There are various types of porn from soft, suggestive types to full on hard porn.

I can understand the naked part, they obviously couldn't call the show Scantily Clad & Afraid, and even disregarding climate, clothes is a big thing to do without......

Our native Bushmen are probably some of the ultimate survivors in the world, and they wear nothing more than people manage to improvise on the show.

I know health and safety bla bla bla, but the fact that they can tap out and have help in minutes means it's a joke, their reckless, stupid lives just carry on without consequences....

Put the best of them in Les Stroud's shoes in Norway and likely we won't see them again......

Ahh Les Stroud, now thats the guy I want to see.

As to GG comment about Cody rubbing off on dave,  I've never actually thought about it.  The premise is military survival protocol and survivalist protocol.

I don't dislike the new guys, buy I also had my favorites.  Bring back Cody and Dave.

Suck it up Discovery and ask the original duo back.
