I am getting a new car!

I am very excited to be getting a new car.  I should be able to get it by the end of the month

I am getting a 2017 KIA Sorento  (this is our 5th KIA since 2004, and man have they come a long way)
I love the 10 year / 100,000 Mile Power-train warranty, and 5 year / 60,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty

the technology has also improved and now has some pretty snazzy features


here is what I am getting  (I chose Titanium color  (sounds tougher)  :rofl: )

Congrats buddy!  A new vehicle is always exciting.  We have a 2011 Kia Sportage and it's been a great vehicle for the couple years or so we've had it.  I love AWD too.  It's excellent in the wintery conditions, which is good because our road is comprised of several hills and corners.  A couple hills would prove challenging for our previous front wheel drive car, but this one goes with no trouble at all.

I like the AWD as it's always on and you don't have to worry about it.  Our only issue is a lack of trunk storage space,  but it's not a full size Suva, so not a surprise.

Nice! :tu: I actually had a Sephia for a bit. It was solid, best I can say for it. :) Kia actually has build a good reputation over the years. Enjoy it!

Congratulations Detron! You sound very excited about it, and I hope the car is better than you expect it to be. KIA has done a good job improving their reputation over the years, and I vet that is a solid AWD SUV.

Very nice, I have a 2012 sorento in denim blue. I went for an auto because of my wazzy legs, and I've loved it since I got it.

Very nice car, I hope you'll enjoy it for many thousands of happy miles.


I just got mine yesterday. Nothing fancy, a Dacia Duster. I'm going to part with it for a week, because we are going to the island of Melos with my wife's Suzuki Ignis (we booked before receiving the new car) but afterwards I'll post some pics in the "What do you drive" thread. I suppose you'll so the same when you'll have yours.

Kia have definitely built up their reputation over the last few years and I don't think I know anyone who doesn't like theirs.  It's definitely one that'll be on my watch list the next time I'm looking at a new car.

I just got mine yesterday. Nothing fancy, a Dacia Duster. I'm going to part with it for a week, because we are going to the island of Melos with my wife's Suzuki Ignis (we booked before receiving the new car) but afterwards I'll post some pics in the "What do you drive" thread. I really liked my five door Ignis.  They're an odd car to try and classify though; not quite small city car, not quite family sized either.  Practical loading space however and a fun drive.

well, the dealership is trying to change prices on me,  so this is in limbo right now.  they have managed to add $5,000 to the sale price,  and we are not falling for it.

there are 3 options

2.4 liter Inline 4 cylinder (2359 cc)  185 Horse power
2.0 liter Turbo  (1998 cc)   240 Horse power
3.3 liter V6 (3342 cc) 290 Horse power

I am getting the 3.3 liter V6  (the 4 cylinder was not available with the options I wanted)

The one I rented was a 3.3l petrol, I believe they do a 2.0l turbo petrol as well

That is a great looking truck Detron!  Congratulations, and I'm glad to hear the dealership sorted out the money issue.  Good on you for making sure to keep them honest!

As for your comments about it not being as good off road as a Jeep, well, the funny thing about that is that a Jeep isn't as good off road as a Jeep either!  :P

When you think Off Road Jeep many people think something like this:



Forgetting the cost of the Jeep itself, there's probably close to $10k in wheels and tires alone... figure almost that again with lift kit, gears, custom (or aftermarket) bumpers, modified or replaced fenders, skid plates etc.  My guess is that if you are going to put close to $20k into any vehicle it can perform pretty well any way you want it to, be it off road or on the track.

Besides, while off roading is fun, the reality is the worst any vehicle like this is really likely to encounter (inadvertently I mean, aka, without deliberately going and looking for problems!) is going to be wet, rainy, snowy or muddy conditions, and in those situations, AWD is not just adequate, it is exemplary.  Don't buy into the "Jeep hype" because it is complete and utter poo.  Besides, I know guys that can drive anything and get further in the woods than many Jeep drivers can!

That is a beautiful truck and I am really looking forward to hearing how you get on with it once you have it.  I hear what you say about the quality of them- the last time I looked at one (some years ago, and it was a Rio 5) it felt like the interior was from an old snap together model kit, and the "leather seats" seemed an awful lot like cheap vinyl stretched across cardboard.  After the test drive it smelled as if the transmission was on fire, so I handed the keys back and ran because I didn't want to get stuck with it!   :ahhh

But, that was long ago, as I'm sure you know better than I do.  the new ones are really quite nice- they have come a long way indeed!
