handy pair of flea market pliers
on: August 13, 2016, 03:47:04 AM
I recently bought a used Gerber MP400 with the round nuts with four 90 deg. indentations, holding the tools into the handle.  I was prepared to make a special tool to grip the nuts as I didn't wish to use pliers and mark them up if I could help it.

Before making a tool I thought I'd check my drawer of pliers just in case I had something that would work.  I came up with these.

Now it looks like someone had these nuts apart in the past as the loctite was "broken" so there was no trouble loosening things off.  If it had been really tight I'd have applied a bit of heat with a small torch before undoing them.

I have no idea what these pliers were originally made for and picked them up at our local flea market some time ago as they looked like they would be handy for something.  The photos may be useful for someone considering making a similar tool.

John.

They are for manipulating small wires, like for jewelry.

Thank you - certainly did not know that.  Work well on the gerbers.
