The inevitable DaveK holiday snaps post....
on: August 16, 2016, 01:39:00 AM
We took a holiday in Britain for the first time in quite a few years on account of having a dog now and the fact that SWMBO didn't want to leave her behind!

Due to short notice, caused by exceptionally poor organisational skills we didn't have a huge amount of choice of destination, but managed to find a converted barn located on Dartmoor, Devon and I have to say it was very nice.

The "barn":

The view:

The decision makers taking early morning tea.....

The waterfall and a proper Olde English Oak at Canonteign:

We didn't do as much hiking as we'd planned due a serious case of man-flu :P But we did walk a bit, and stumbled across this memorial to a soldier who was killed in Palestine in 1918. It didn't stipulate, but I guess he must have been a local lad. He was 19.

We ventured into Cornwall a couple of times, included a trip to Tintangel - where legend has it that King Arthur was conceived after some shady dealings between Merlin and Luther Pendragon. Not much of the castle and supporting buildings remains, but its worth the slog up to the headland for the spectacular coastal views.

I was shocked to find that Excalibur now has a welded bracket bolted to the rock and was seemingly therefore NOT returned to the Lady of the Lake  :o

Wild ponies gobbed all over my car  :twak:

We went to Dartmouth Castle.

Mevagissey, Cornwall. Possibly one of the most photogenic places I've ever been. You can point your camera just about anywhere and get a lovely shot.

Sunday (yesterday) was "dog-day" and we found a gorge maintained by the National Trust to let the dog run around a bit - ended up being quite a trek but the dog loved it! The route started at Fingle Bridge and followed the River Teign for a few miles. It was nice and there was a pub at the end

Thoroughly enjoyable trip :)

I used to come here a lot.

It's a lovely part of the country and you've got the weather this week :tu:

I'm back home now sadly Smashie, but we don't start back to work until Monday so we'll get a day-trip or two to the Peak District in before then with a bit of luck  :tu:

But yeah - weather was excellent and contributed to a great break :)
I used to come here a lot.

This seems like old times again, man it's great to have you back Dave :D :D

The scenery is absolutely jaw-dropping! It makes me want to visit over the pond - something I've wanted to do for years.

Awww - thanks sawman  :) It's kind of nice to be posting them again. I've done more traveling and had more adventures in my life over the last 5 or 6 years than ever before but haven't really shared much of it on the 'net.

As for visiting - do it! The pound has fallen through the floor since the Brexit thing so you'll live like a king :D

Technically, I'm on holiday for a few more days yet  :tu:

Took a couple of snaps with the phone from the top of Winhill Pike in the Peak District earlier, so here seems like a good place to share them :)

It was pretty hot hot and we had to curtail the walk a bit as the dog was struggling a bit, but was still a nice day out.

About to order a curry to replace those burned calories :D

I also used the OS iPhone app to record the route, so about to have a play on their website and see what it all does!
I used to come here a lot.

I remember those places from many years ago I even remember the staircase...
