Another old fav that used to get tons of carry....

Schrade USA 194OT Gunstock Trapper

Love this pattern and have three versions of it.

A sawcut delrin, 194OT in carbon (bottom), an SC503 Scrimshaw in Schrade+ (top) and in between, a factory error 194OT (in carbon) stamped "SC503 Schrade". It has a SC503 blade from when the Scrimshaw Schrades had carbon blades, before they switched to Schrade+ stainless.

Bought that last one from the Rhett Stidham Estate on the bay.

Day 11

Another Case sowbelly, this one in CV! It had the important task of opening a big bag of M&M's to dump into my desktop candy machine today.

(Image removed from quote.)

I'll have you know that this picture caused me to hit the buy button on a Chestnut jigged Sowbelly in CV.

:tu: Case's Sowbelly is a great pattern, the clip blade is beefy and the other blades are thin. It's only two layers though, so you can get a little blade rub sometimes, but if it were three layers I think it'd be too heavy. These are not knives that disappear in the pocket! But they are solid.

Day 13

Case Sodbuster Jr. — again, in jigged chestnut bone CV. I used this to open some bags of sand for my daughter's sandbox. Big mistake, I even knew as I was doing it this would lead to trouble. So despite my carefulness, sand got in there, so he had to take a bath and get all cleaned out, dried off, and oiled up afterwards. Will probably hit the Sharpmaker tonight just to complete the treatment.

May it be as the Pattern has chosen.

Is it too late to start? Or is it ok, just 30 consecutive days? (Doesn't say month, so I assume it's ok)

Day 12

Nice Alan, is that your Uncle Lucky from yesterday?

Yes. It's a Frost's Uncle Lucky 3 blade stockman and I've switched to that for the duration because the Schrade is a little small for my tastes.  The only other traditional pattern knife I have (for now) is an 8 inch dealer display knife that I have in a shadow box display on the wall and I'm afraid to take it out and take a picture of it because I have cut myself, badly, every time I've touched it.

Got the bright idea to carry my only good Scout knife (I've got an Imperial Cub Scout from the '50s that needs re-pinning too), a 1970s Imperial Kamp King Scout with my old 34OT.   Quality, is OK, quite a ways below Vic, but definitely miles above anything that is a Chinese SAK-alike.  Keep in mind, Imperial, especially at the time, like Colonial was a budget brand--this knife likely cost a fraction of what a Tinker or Spartan cost back then.  Can opener is not all that great, punch makes a better wood chisel than an awl, and in fact, I think it makes a better chisel than Vic's purpose built tool.  I'm thinking about reprofiling the slightly curved edge of the awl tip to a straight one for that reason--but this knife was originally my great-uncle's. It seems he used it a few times, sharpened it, and put it back.   Someday, I need to get myself a Boker Scout similar to the one my father had.
