Sog toolclip stainless
on: August 17, 2016, 09:17:13 PM
While out and about this morn I located the above in very good shape in a pawn shop.  Only the tool, no sheath or accessories.  The price is $45 Can plus tax but may be a bit negotiable.  I'm very unfamiliar with these.  Is that a fair price and did it originally come with a sheath or anything else?

Thanks,

John.

If it's a real Toolclip, yes, that's a good deal at $45 CAD given how much lower it is than the USD at present.

But, be warned.  There's a bunch of all stainless Toolclip lookalikes that were only about $10 or $15 new.  Most of those were tool only like you say.

Cody - This one was pretty nice.  I'm aware of copies but so far they have other labels - the one's I've seen.  Are there any copies that really look like the Sog toolclip including the stamped labels etc?

I checked ebay and it looks like there aren't any listed right now - the mini seems to be more common even though there aren't many of them either.  Will look further tonight.

Thanks,

John.

All the ToolClip copies I've seen are pretty poor imitations, so if it seems good quality then it probably is a genuine SOG ToolClip.

Here is a link to the MTo wiki entry if you want to see some details about the real thing:

There are a couple of ToolClips on US ebay at the moment, but the sellers are asking quite high (too high IMO) prices for them.

I gave this some thought for a few days and went back yesterday to see if it was still available.  I looked it over carefully and other than some very minor scuffs on the scales it is very clean.  Made a deal and brought it home.

It is certainly a very solid and well made tool.  Everything is very tight and functional.  It is the earlier version with "Pat. Pend." on it.

Thanks for the replies.

John.

Thanks.  It's interesting what I come across in this area although some tools are in nowhere near the condition that this one is.

If you decide it isn't for you, let me know!  You got a hell of a score there!

Will keep you in mind :)

I've now got the toolclip, a paratool and a powerlock and find the evolution of the sog tools quite interesting.

For those who are more "visually oriented"  :D, I've taken a photo of the three SOG tools in order of progression.  This is my sum total of Sog tools.

The toolclip, as mentioned was obtained locally in a pawn shop, the paratool was located at our local flea market and the Power Lock was the result of a recent trade.

Enjoy,

John.

Still liking that Toolclip find.  8) 8) 8)

I think the mini toolclips come in vintage, new that look like vintage, and seki japan models. Lots of colors too.
