Kick Clip on a Rebar
on: August 19, 2016, 05:36:03 AM
After posting today about a clip on my Rebar I got to thinking about the clip that goes on the Kick  Would I be able to swap the pin from it to a Rebar thus making it able to have a clip that not only is a good factory LM clip but that could be put on and off rather easily ???

So I went and got my Kick out and checked to see if they were about the same size and lo and behold it was a very close match :o :D I took my trusty loki wrenches and took the pivot pin and screw out of the kick and didn't even disturb the tools :like: Then I took the pivot pin out of the Rebar which gave me a bit of trouble but I got it all the way out

I then replace the pins in each of them with the other pin and tightened them both back up and got the tension back where it needed to be and then took the Kick clip and a 6 star bit driver that I bought years ago for a blade swap out in my Wave and put it on and I am pleased with the results :tu: I now have a removable clip on my Rebar and the Kick is still as functional as it was before as I never put the clip on it anyways ::) :D

I am gonna try it as it is but if it doesn't pocket clip the way I want it to I am gonna swap the pin around and put the clip on the other side of the handle but for now I am happy that it worked

So now I have a Rebar with scissors, a diamond file and a removable pocket clip :dd: One happy LM fanboy here right now :D

Glad it worked out for you.  :tu:

I had the same idea (not original) when I had a kick and Fuse apart. I found the Kick pivot with the threads has a slight flat spot making it not perfectly round making it incompatible with the Fuse. I was going to ask about it, but kept forgetting. Did you not have this problem with the Rebar and your Kick?

Did you have to modify the clip ?

Years ago I flattened out the little tab on the clip to use them as wrenches for PSTs and I guess that was the only thing that would have to be done to one :tu: Other than that it was a straight up swap and drop in

This is next on my list of additions to my rebar too. I've tested it before. Yeah let us know how it carries over a few days. Since the stabilizer clip had been flattened correct? I'm curious to know if it will slip from center. I'm not sure how right you could get it, with the tools moving freely and how long it'll stay snug.

Nice looking rebar  :tu:

If you try to force it to be clipped it moved but you can move it back ;) I clipped it a little easier and it was fine and it rides fairly well in my pocket  The tools are still in there tight as when I don't have the clip on as well :tu: I will loctite it all up if the clip suits me and just keep it on all the time and that will also help it from moving around some much :like:

I will get some more pics up ;) It may be later in the day as I don't have a 6 sided star bit with me because that will also help you see how the clip is in there and how it all works

Didn't someone do this with a Kick clip?
He had to file a notch in the Rebar's handle to accommodate the tooth the clip has, to prevent it from swinging to the side.
How did your clip fit on the handle with no filing?

I had to flatten that little retainer clip flat years ago to use it as a PST wrench so it is just on there flat as of now ;) I did mention this earlier above to Steve but not in my OP  It moves a little but as long as you take a couple extra seconds to clip it easy then so far it hasn't been a problem but I have only had it clipped in for a couple hours ::) I will report back my findings either way good or bad as we got through today (Friday here still) and this weekend as I exclusively carry it pocket clipped

So far as long as I push straight down the clip works great  If I try and slide it on sideways as I do with my Skeletool clip it wants to move sideways ::) So far all the tools are staying tight and it is lost in my pocket until I need it :tu:

Glad I tried this :dd:

Advantages either way you do it I suppose. Zoids is nice because the clip will always stay stationary. But, you have to cut into the hand body (albeit very small). Ponchos flattening the clip is nice if you change your mind and want a no clip rebar or have a snug sheath.  :salute:

You mentioned that the clip can move when putting it into the pocket at an angle. I also tested this and ran into the same issue, also while using the tool (pliers in particular) it would also move.

So I personally kinda like both methods. And see advantages to both/either.

I think I always want a clip on my tools for portability and pocket carry, BUT, I don't like the hot spots while using my tools either...

I think loctite will also cure some of the movement as well and I will try that and let everyone know about that as well :tu:

After you get the clip in place then put the screw over it and tighten it :tu:

Well it has been over a month now and the clip is still working great :tu: It does have some side to side play but if you push straight down to clip it then there is no issue whatsoever  I am very happy I went this route and have a great clip on this awesome MT :dd: It makes non sheath carry exceptionally more easy than just regular pocket carry as well :like:
