Charge with a loose screw
on: August 22, 2016, 02:07:37 PM
So I bought a like new Charge TTi (first gen scales) that the previous owner hardly used. It's in new condition. Yesterday I noticed the hinge on the blade side has a lot of play. There are no marks on the security screws so I don't believe it was loosened and I don't have the torx' yet to touch it.
Is it normal for them to loosen on their own? Send it in or buy the tools to tighten it? In the pic I am lightly holding the scales together with my thumb on the head of the screw on the other side.

Not normal, no - but they can loosen.  No need to send it back - get the right bit (T10 security torx, often available in a security bit set that'll come in handy elsewhere) and tighten it up.  Maybe use a bit of loctite on the thread if you've got some.

It's not normal for them to work loose naturally, as they use loctite to lock the threads in the factory. However, I notice yours is not new, so its possible that someone has tightened or loosened them and broken the thread locker - you'll probably never know!

Either way, I would personally pick up the tools as I do like to tinker. I received a brand new TTi the other day and immediately tightened the threads on one of the handles as I prefer my tools that way but I'm sure the warranty would fix them up for you if you preferred!
I used to come here a lot.

Ok. Thanks guys. I guess I'll carry the AL until I get the tools.
