Machete, at least half of it...
on: October 13, 2016, 12:46:10 PM
Can half of machete be named "machete" or it should be called "knife" already? Doesn't matter, I use it both ways: for cutting and chopping. Handle and sheath made by myself. Here it is:

Seems to be quite unique...

...but it's not. The label says "Made in Ghana", but probably it was made in Poland, Europe, 70' or 80', during dark times of red soSmurfpillsm. It used to be much longer and with hook at the end:

The hook was terribly axially twisted (maybe not hardened properly?) and suited more to cut sugar grass in Ghana than European bushes and trees. Because of the twist, it was almost impossible to use the tool. So I simply cut the hook off. Now the blade is stright and it serves me like a "lightweight machete" to prepare wood for campfire. It also chops meat and bones (outdoor and at home) very nice. Cutting a bread is also not a problem :)

PS: and sorry for my poor English.

Sounds like a modification that worked very well for you  :tu:

Your English is excellent, no need to apologize.

It reminds me of the last Rambo movie knife- almost like a cleaver.

I like it!

But unlike the cleaver, the blade is rather thin and the steel is quite hard.

With hook my machete was sth like Uruk-Hai Scimitar from “Lord Of The Rings” ;)

Has anyone seen the early 90s cartoon, Pirates of Dark Water? One of the characters uses a broken sword, so this reminded me of that.

Of course, I also agree with Grant.

The back half of machete's make fine bush knives. My father made this one just after WW2 from an old English machete. Used a cut off wheel with lots of coolant handmade a short bush cleaver out o fit. Extremely handy around a campsite. Cuts brush, kindling, bread, ham, whatever. Dad's been gone a long time, but his bush cleaver keeps on cutting. Seems to be some very good Sheffield steel in this one.

Don't get too serious, just enough will do.
