Eating old MRE's - who has done this?

I read this and thought it was interesting. Do any of you have any experience and if so, what are your thoughts on each countries MRE's?

It's heartening to see so many threads derailed on the first reply

In place of any MRE information pertinent to the OP, just give us any experience you've had with literally anything.

Example. I have just started reading Lord of the Rings again, the second time in 35 years and it's better than I remember.

I now cry havoc and let slip the dogs of derailment!

They taste like crap when they are in date, why in the name of (pick deity) would you eat out of date ones? :ahhh

Ask any British serviceman over the age of 38 about the delights of the "Biscuits AB".  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

My parents were both in the military.

My mom, as an officer, was assigned to an MRE depot to organize a cleanup of old MRE packs.

She told me that they pulled open old MRE's to remove the chocolates.
They were white instead of brown because of aging, but the flavour was still good. So it was send to the kitchen to turn them into chocolate milk.

All the other stuff, like biscuits, were tossed away because the militairy saw these as being "too unreliable"

As a sidenote:
Plain white rice, kept in a cool, dry environment, lasts indefinetly.

Pertinent to the OP is this thread from another forum. Some interesting information and perspectives from many who have been there and done that.

Blatantly nicked from ARRSE-pedia

Quote
Nobody has ever really known what the AB stood for. 'Anal blockage' was the most common answer but in reality it was : 'ArseBursters' based on their well known ability to glue your outlet valve so tight, you thought you were about to get a turtle's head a la Alien. These really were the food of Satan: thousands of soldiers spent millions of man hours trying to make them taste OK, and in the end, all they were able to do was crumble them into a compo all-in stew, alongside the Beef and Onion and Macedoine (and with the Apple and Apricot Flakes if the hideous truth be told). Thank God for Biscuits Brown and the even more exotically named Biscuits BGMB.
Is also a witch.

Flash Traffic - meaning of AB found! Apparently it stands for "Alternative Bread", which makes a certain sort of sense...... can't exactly slap a few slices of Sunblest into a bag, put it on a shelf in the QM's store, issue it exactly two weeks before the ration pack goes past its shelf life, and expect to have the fluffly white makings of a nice sandwich.
Of course, the Americans have just spent millions developing MRE sandwiches which apparently allow you to do just that.

I have weird tastes in movies so best I don't make a call good or bad. I will say it has Scarlett Johansson in it. Shocker, I know.
