GEC knives always give me that "gagging to be used" feeling  I just do not get that from SAKs for some reason.

In the unlikely event that this goes to the notably mysterious topic of the Originator :P

The knife that most feels like an "extension of my arm" is probably my Icel 15cm chef knife (Faca De Chefe...apparently)
I use it every day, and whilst I'm not sure where Icel measures on the "Fancy Knife" scale (probably not very high), this thing has served well for many years. I have newer, and arguably better knives, but I usually grab this one anyway, because of it's familiarity and the ease with which I wield it against all sorts of soon-to-be-dinner foes.

I don't know if I've ever handled a knife "off the shelf" that immediately felt perfect. Obviously some feel better than others, but there will always be a period where you, as an individual, develop the precise muscle-memories and awareness of the grip, behaviours (and dimensions  ::) ) of a new knife.

I too am unsure what the original topic was destined to be exactly. However, there are a few knives I've got that just felt "right" straight  away.

The first, which was my first fixed blade, is an Iisaakki Jaavenpaa  Puukko which I've probably spelled completely wrong  :P Others include the Boker TUF and DePlessis Warthog by Scorpion Knives in Sheffield. Three rather different knives, but there was an instant connection with each one.

I'll post up pics in a bit.  My kitchen knives come to mind relating the the OP question.  I've used these knives for much longer than any of the pocket knives I have.  I find using them is almost instinctual and effortless.

My cleaver was bought in China Town San Fransisco about 1991-93.  High Carbon steel sharpens to quite the razor.  I've not treated this knife well over the years but it hasn't failed on me once.  I truly love this knife.

I have some more expensive knives like my Henkel Pro S that is very comfortable in hand and a dream to use.  I don't know what steel is used but it also sharpens as well as holds an edge quite wonderfully.

There a few other knives in my kitchen arsenal that also are extensions of my hand.

Phone won't let me edit the original post so I'll just post this here

What are your guys' knives that just melt into your hand and feel so natural that it's almost as if they're a part of you?

This, to me, is a really cool concept: a knife that fits your hand better than anything else, like it was molded to perfectly fit your dimensions. It's (IMO) extremely individualistic - as nobody has the exact same size hands and preferences when it comes to handles.

I've found my Vic Tinker to fit these parameters perfectly for me. It's probably a combination of having vics as a constant presence during my childhood and the simple rounded 3.5" handle that really make this knife spark joy in me every time I grasp hold of its slender but assuring frame. Even though not primarily a knife, it is perfectly balanced, and the thin blade is just the right length and thickness that I'm used to.

I tend to adapt to whichever knife/tool I'm using. Don't really have one that stands out from the rest. I like Opinel #8, the wood handle feels "organic" and the smooth curve fits perfectly in the hand. Also like the 111 SAKs, the slight curve in the handle as a similar effect.

This is perhaps my most comfortable to hold and use folder.

I bought it used.  I got in a bidding war online and ended up paying as much, or a little more than a new one would have cost me, and it was scratched up and dirty when it arrived, but n the end I am glad it was.  They dirt came off and the scratches meant I didn't feel like I had to be careful with it, and so I started using it often and without worry.

When it comes to fixed blades, this is perhaps the best I've ever held:

The Grohmann is the first one that comes to mind, although I will grudgingly admit that the Cold Steel copy isn't bad either.  Especially when you consider that the Grohmann pictured above was a gift from a bunch of forum members a few years ago, I really can't bear to have anything happen to it.  It still goes out and gets used, but not as hard as it should because I'm worried about breaking or losing it.

By the way, while I can't condone the use of other forums, this thread amuses the heck out of me, because I thought you were going to start it in the Outdoor Edge section here and when I looked for it there was nothing.  It was only after everyone else began with their shenanigans that I realised that you weren't planning to post it here at MTO at all.  Then a few hours later when the thread was re-railed by people that were just guessing what the topic was by the title, I had a good laugh because we are known as the forum that always goes off topic, and here we are, re-railing a thread that belongs to a train in another station!
