Welcome to the forum.  We have had a few Brazilian members in the past, but I was thinking the other day that I haven't seen any of them around for a while.  Thanks for joining up to fill in the gap!

Silly question for you since you are here.... are the crossbows your country issues to the Special Forces available for purchase?  I would love to get my hands on one!

Well, you have two SAKs!

Welcome,  you will enjoy learning about all models, then about aluminum oxide or Alox for short. Then about different colors.
Oh my, may the force be strong in this new member!

fun thing is i don't really like the look of alox that much... maybe that'll change... also they are hell expensive over here, even more than the normal ones... the normal classic cost me 90 reais (around 30 dollars)

From Wikipedia:

"In Brazil the CIGS (Jungle Warfare Training Center) also trains soldiers in the use of crossbows."

As I understand it they were used as a silent weapon in jungle warfare against rebels in the 60's?  My info might be a bit out of date or incorrect though. They may not still be currently issued but I recall doing some research on them a few years ago. Or I could be completely confused, which also happens.  :D

Nah, don't think they are issued anymore... can't find anything about them, they just say cigs used "crossbows". I got a little confused, because the CIGS isn't a Special Operations unit, they are just specialized in jungle warfare. our Spec Ops unit is the First Special Forces Batallion, located near Brasilia.
And please don't use "rebels". Probably the crossbow was used against drug traffickers and stuff. The 60's and 70's were a very hard period in Brazil due to the military dictatorship, most people who fought against it (even though no civil war happened, there was a underground movement and small rebellions) are extremely respected in many circles in Brazil.

ah, now that i see the photo... yeah, maybe it is still under limited use... limited. the uniform the soldier is wearing looks kinda like the modern uniform of the Brazilian Army, but the photo looks a bit old...
here's a link, it is still manufactured, so, either it was used and is so good it is still made, or the photo is recent and it is a "off the shelf" product in limited use, cuz i don't see any websites saying anything about the army using a crossbow

I meant no offence intended calling someone "rebels."  In my opinion, "rebel" is not a negative term, and I couldn't recall the exact conditions for what happened.

Thanks for the info.  I really like the cocking mechanism of this unit, and I have been looking for one like it, with no luck.

I've got a small crossbow on the attic of my parents that can be cocked like an airgun...
by bending it and straighten it again, it grabs the elastic band and places it on the trigger mechanism.

I'll look into the brand name next time I'm there if you want?
