Aberdrew13's MUT 30-Day Challenge
on: December 02, 2016, 01:15:30 PM
With not having a current challenge that I'm in, I thought I'd give a new challenge a try!

I challenge myself to get through the 30 days with a MUT!

Day 1:

First thing's first....I had to adjust the tension on the pocket clip to keep from destroying the edge of my pockets.  I slid a t-shirt under the clip to protect the finish, and used a mini-pry bar to make the adjustments.  I got it so that it's still tight on the pocket, but shouldn't shred them.

It will be carried clipped to my right back pocket due to the size.

I look forward to seeing how this tool holds up for the task of Etc. It having weapon centric tools and it not being geared towards the everyday Joe.

Another challenge eh :D Good to see you get to use pliers this month ;) I am looking forward to this as well  I want to see if the MUT can hold it's own as the Signal did in Pietervns challenge thread :tu:

I am thinking you will be fine but by the end of the month you will definitely be able to tell us good or bad about the MUT :like: :like: :like:

I've been getting the itch to start messing with some of my firearms again, so the tool set may be useful for that.  The saw will probably not be used at all.  The rest should be interesting though!

G'Day,

Excellent choice for a Challenge. I really like the MUT too.

I have a newer style clip that you are welcome to have, I think there may be more give in it that the Ti one it comes with. I use mine without the clip, Gohard made me an excellent leather sheath.

I include pics of the new style clip and my clipless MUT

Good luck with the challenge, I will be following this one too.

Cheers,

Pete

I appreciate the offer, but I think the adjustment I made will work for me.  Before it is over, I may make a kydex sheath for horizontal carry, but clipped carry is fine for now.

So far today I've used the bronze scraper to clean out a battery terminal.  Didn't get a pic, but I have a shotgun to clean when I get home.  I've shot two rounds of sporting clays this morning.  Pics to come.

Day 2:

After shooting game 100+ rounds of 12 gauge with sporting clays this morning, it was time to clean my shotgun.  The bronze scraper made great work on the carbon buildup and gunk on parts of the gas system.

I'll have a gun pic up tonight.  I believe I have a new 1911 trigger sitting in the mail box, so I will use the punch on the MUT to knock out the one pin that requires it.  Then I hope I have to fit the trigger.  I'm replacing the one in the gun due to a sloppy fit; I'd hate for the new one to have a similar problem.

Day 4:

New trigger showed up, so I dismantled one of my 1911s to install it.  The original was poorly fit.

I used the bit driver and the flathead bit to remove the grip panels after field-stripping.

I used the punch to push out the pin holding the mainspring housing.

Got it all apart.

Swapped in the new trigger, which did not require fitting, but did fit better than the factory.

While I was in the work shop, I took a file to the bit holder because it has been ridiculously difficult to remove bits.

Some nice pictures!!! This is what the MUT is made for!

Interesting point on you having to file the bit driver. I checked both mine and once you press where your thumb is, the bits come out silky smooth.

Cheers,

Pete

I've tried pushing all around in that area to try to get it to move, but couldn't get help.  I was having to push up on the retainer, and it didn't want to move very much at all.  Adding the triangular notch did the trick though.  They are retained, but slide out pretty easy when I want to remove them.

 :hatsoff:

If some parts ever come off back order, there will be some AR-15 work going on as well.

Good work on carrying the MUT!

I am sure you will find a use for the saw this month...Christmas Tree comes to mind.

Day 7:

Used the MUT to cut up this fiber optic jumper to prevent further use.  It was broke.  The Kevlar strands made it a task worthy of a heavy blade.
