Day 10
A small project: duct tape carrier
We've seen fancy machined edc spools from Atwood (65$) and Gearward (25$) or flat packs/mini rolls from UST, EDCbrand, random ebay sellers, etc(5-10$).
Well heres my take:
It is simply a piece of plastic tube/pen barrel/etc with 2 washers super glued to the ends, with a  simple paracord loop fob.
It works best with flat washers and gel glue.
The best part is it is made from garbage found in the bottom of my tool box. So its free.

whats in the mail? A Classic of course.
In this case a Rough Rider 1080 w/ pliers.

This is my first Rough Rider and I am pleasantly suprised at the quality. It is no Case or Queen, but it is a much cleaner finish than I expected at <1/5 the price .  Definitely a great value, especially if you are one to worry about loosing an expensive knife.

I will most likely be using a RR when I get around to the Traditional challenge.

Day 13
My postman is infuriating. First my package was miss-scanned as "delivered" yesterday , then re-scanned "sorted" this morning, finaly delivered this afternoon. :mail: He stuffed a box barely fit in the box, so I had to cut it up to get it out.  :twak:

But it was worth it. I am now the proud owner of a  Wenger Fidis lighter. I've wanted one since they came out but was never willing to drop the cash on one. Well I found one half off and jumped on it.

Its fish scaler time :ahhh
Ok, so I dont use it on fish I use it on my dogs. The fishscaler makes a great comb for them. Now there are fluffy clumps of fur blowing all over the neighborhood.
So here's a comparison pics of the Monarch vs ChampionPlus fishscaler too

And as usual Amy is not cooperative for the camera.

Day 18
Happy birthday to me Happy birthday to me  lets Surge ahead one more year  Happy birthday to me

With a "new" Surge. The guys at the pawn shop gave me a great deal on a barely used surge. Serious no scuffs, scratches, lint, dust, rust, or resharpening. This thing looks new.

Edit:
Ok so the thumb hole on this thing is sharp, and I mean scraper/planer sharp. After an hour or so of playing with it I have large gouges in my thumb where the skin is gone. Any deeper and I would have drawn blood. So out come the needle files. Lets see if I can break that edge off, and clean it up.

Edit 2
So I smoothed that bur and its much better, and easier on the thumb. Then I realized some of this may be my thumb coming in contact with the edge itself after opening it a few dozen more times. By bad.

If I use the pad of my thumb I am fine, but if I use the tip of my thumb then 3/4 of the way around the pad touches the edge. So as my thumb got sore from the bur I was changing position slightly and may have contacted the edge.
   :twak:   :twak:

I did not move from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast for it to be 21f  when I wake up. It was almost 50 today but they said we're going to shave 20 degrees once the sun goes down.
Oh well at least it's not the negatives I grew up with, or then negatives of the freezer warehouse I used to work in.
And I have a fireplace to photo the Monarch in front of.

Day 22
Opening mail :mail:
No those aren't Skittles, it's a Climber, with red ?nylon? scales.
:climber:
This one was going to be for a scale modification. I was either going to paint  and DuraCoat them, or I might try to dye some epoxy and molding new ones similar to the glow in the dark scales I'm not sure which yet. I need to learn more. One thing I do know is the color will be "Tiffany" teal, and if painted will have a swirl dipped white accent.

Thoughts and opinions on the project? Of painting would it be better to use the nylon or celador?

Also I am not knowledgeable about Victorinox heraldry so what is up with the different shield on the nylon versus the celador climber.

Day 23
These pics were an attempt to do some more formal staged set photos. Unfortunately the lighting was smurf and flash made it worse. The SAK adventure pics weren't as bad as the LM/rifle ones. This is why those got a negative filter, which turned out interesting.
I was going for a photographer badge but these aren't good enough in my opinion.

Edit seems I am having trouble posting pics at the moment. I will edit and post the pics asap

Heres a couple  of the LM rifle shots without the filters
As I said bad lighting and too cluttered. I went overboard and they turned out  like a 3am Knife Shopper infomercial.
I was actualy reluctant to post any of these, but I didn't feel like finding a fresh photo op today.

Day 25
Happy Friday the 13th :ahhh

Looks like the LM's med flat works well on the catch for paper towel dispenser at work. It's really just an arrowhead catch with a simple single warded keyway. If you have the right size flat head you can open it without the key. Too big you hit the ward, too small it wont catch.

Much easier than raking a padlock with SAK tweezers

I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
But for now I'm just a lost jack of trades with neither mastery nor home. ~NoaIsumi
