Wow Poncho.
At least it sounds like you have plenty of job security.

Do you ever lay bricks in your dreams?     >:D   Just can't get over the huge number of bricks- one by one...

Not really  One time we were laying a man made rock that was random pattern and I think I was laying that a time or two in my dreams :D But that has been many many moons ago ;) :tu:

Some of these jobs had over a million brick in them not counting the number of block :o We had one job at Vanderbilt that was a parking garage that had over 110,000 block in it (all of that was in the elevator shafts and stairwells :ahhh ) top to bottom they were roughly 154 ft each :o It had 12 floors of parking and 9 of those were underground :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh with only 3 above ground :D

Some really beautiful work Poncho.  I'll say it again, I love brickwork!  I enjoy seeing masonry in general actually.

Thanks guys

I would have more from before 2004 but we didn't have digital cameras or camera phones :D

My dad did have a digital camera before that but never took pics of the jobs and only pics to have proof we had put flashing in and things of that nature in case of a leak or if another trade had done something that might affect us down the line he had the camera to take stuff like that ::) He only thought about taking job pics around 2004 and after that he started taking a lot of them and then of course I got a phone with a camera and started taking my own pics   :tu:

I have a friend in the tile business and his back was shot before he was 30.  Be glad that you get to at least do yours standing up!  :D

Not when we lay thousands of brick pavers at a time :ahhh :D

It does change things up when we do that and breaks the monotony  :D

We do everything the old fashioned way :D There is no way some of the older bricklayers would even let something like that on the job  They are neat though and I have wondered how well they really work :salute: Cool video   :like:

My first thought was that the brick is still being laid by hand inside the machine, so I didn't think there would be much benefit to it, but after watching the video the guys aren't lifting the bricks (good) and they are standing up (better) rather than bending over to place bricks on the ground.  That just seems like a lot easier on one's back, but then I imagine you would have to lay an awful lot of brick to justify the cost of a machine like that.

Of course, it also looks like you lay an awful lot of brick, so maybe you need to show that link to your boss!  :P

Well that is the thing, it lays a lot of brick but it is all in a straight road ;) We lay patios, bands on each side of sidewalks, various other bands in roads and in many different patterns beside the herring bone that is in the video  It would be nice but we do far to many different things to justify a machine's cost like this :ahhh Check the herring bone pattern around the fountain in some of the pics on the page before :dd:  The fountain is curved and it is a very complex and hard pattern to keep straight when going like that and you have to keep a pretty close eye on those doing it so it doesn't get out of whack :o :D

Builder/bricklayer and tile work, that's what my grandfather did until his late 60's.
He was 66 when they tiled a water purification plant, working 6am-6pm.

One question, don't your bricks have frogs?
