The Remgrit saw is alright. It tends to get clogged and cut poorly after a little bit of use. The cutting area is also excessively thick so you cut a lot more material than you need to.

However, it is possible to get better blades at most hardware stores since the tool uses the typical jigsaw blade attachment system. When I carried mine I had one saw blade specifically for wood and two for metal. IIRC they were $1 or so each in a pack at Lowe's.

Yes they are good. And you can get different kinds of blades. Metal, wood and so on.

So is it necessary to have a hole in the u shank, when using on the Gerber?  I'm thinking you could trim off the t, and with some dremmel  work you could turn any jigsaw blade into which ever style you need, with loosing some length

Yes the old style blade holder has a pin through the hole to hold the blade.

Modifying one would of course work, assuming you can do it. From my experience with reciprocating saw blades, most of the time you need a carbide drill bit to drill through the blade. Not sure if jigsaw bladed are softer or not.

It's an abrasive cutting tool, not a toothed one. It won't cut wood as efficiently as a wood cutting jigsaw blade, or metals as efficiently as a metal cutting jigsaw blade, but its strength is versatility. It will cut wood and metal and more, just not as well as a dedicated tool.

If you know what you'll be cutting, take the relevant blade. If not, take the Remgrit

Must admit I have never used or heard of Remgrit in my life, so I was curious.
Would it be easy to buy other type blades of the same fitting?

They can be found, but how tricky they may be to tracks down probably varies by location.
