Because it makes the SAK unusable for all of us in countries which don't allow you to carry locking knives under normal circumstances

Good point, I forgot about that.
Talk about daft laws!
I can see why they do it - Historically we Brits simply can't be trusted. Give us half a chance and we invade you  :D

Thankfully we got bored of collecting new countries and gave most of them back. Then we gave ourselves away for a while to see what it felt like to be on the receiving end. Hopefully we've learned our lessons and we'll not bother doing either again  :D As Sir Thomas Beecham famously said, "try everything once, except incest and folk dancing"

Yes, but we do seem to get on well once established cuz.

Some invasions work out better than others, notably the Beatles, such a terrific failure.  :D

A SAK is so much more then a knife so any model solo. Imagine a SAK that can't open your Beer or wine or turn a simple screw.
Jeep the SAK of the auto world or is it SAK the Jeep of the Knife world?

None.   Although I don't quite like the old, ineffective Wenger saw.  Wengers with Packlock are uncomfortable to use, but can be unlocked one-handed with my left hand, which makes me not mind it as much.

Fake China made SAKs are all awful.

Like many other folks... the flat screw driver version of the "Combo Tool"... looks like flippers on a harbour seal...
But the other tools, on any of the SAK plagued with that horrific hunk of steel, are awesome.

So no worst SAK, just one implement.

As much as I have tried to get along with them, I cannot abide by the 108mm combo tool; the saw is too short, and the cap lifter/can opener/screwdriver is entirely too far removed from the handle.

Scissor-less SAKs top the list for me, 58mm without scissors especially.

Yep. I have collected about 8 SAKs without scissors. 4 91s and 4 93s. But never a 58. I'd probably choose scissors over knife blade if I had to choose 1.

There is no worst SAK!  :twak:

Golf Tool, SwissCard, Tomo .. such things I do not like,
but these models are for me not really SAKs.
My opinion.

+1
The only bad SAK is the one that doesn't work for you. If I had to choose one it would be a solo. Defeats the purpose of a SAK, but the next guy might dig that.

I guess because if just going for a blade and forgoing the tools, there are better pocket knives out there, with better blade steels etc.

Of course "better" is very much in the eye of the beholder... if easy sharpening is a priority then Victorinox's blade steel might become "better" than S30V.  And something like an alox Excelsior or Solo is about as slim and pocketable as any of the competition.  So the single-blade SAKs do have their advantages.

Fair point, though I do wish the blade steel on SAKs held an edge a little better, even VG10 (which is quite easy to sharpen) would be an improvement, Elmax would be amazing.

I don't think the solo is a terrible knife. I had to pick one and that's it. Like I said, one that's bad for you might be just right for the next guy. It also doesn't mean I wouldn't buy one.  :D

I agree. They are way better steels that last longer and sharpen easily. Also would be nice to see some different blade shapes also.

Plenty of SAKs out there I don't care about... (blasphemy, I know ::) ) though if I had to choose one I'd probably nominate the Bantam or the Waiter. They're like the Compact but without the scissors (nor the hook) which makes them even worse for me

Sure, they provide plenty of functions for a single layer SAK just not the ones I prefer. Also, with the exception of the 108mm Solo, I find single layer SAKs too thin to handle comfortably.

Honorable mention goes to anything 85mm with a blade lock!

Yes, that would be great - clip point and perhaps a wharncliffe small blade on the 91mm models
