Situation: Spyderco knives are universally praised around here but Kampfer refuses to get on the bandwagon.
Mission Objective: Convince Kampfer to buy a Spyderco folder
Cost: <$300
Blade length: <8"
Weight: <16oz
Risk: You are most likely to fail.
Reward: If you successfully convinced Kampfer to buy one, he would order two, one for himself and one for you.
Rule of engagement: Anything made in Japan is absolutely out of the question.
EDC: Black Talon, Black Cat, Spirit, LD02

Fail #1.

 :D

I do like Spyderco, and have several. All made in Japan, though (or worse even, made in Taiwan).

IDK... someone was drinking on the job, I guess...

Seemed like something you might like, with the curve blade and all... but the brass bolsters are weird...

Good question, the lovechild of a traditional Bowie and a modern kukri (or possibly the other way around) is my guess. You are being very generous with this giveaway chance and since I too have a hard time seeing all the fuss I will watch this topic and see what people come up with.

My last idea:

Yojimbo™ 2 G-10 Black
http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details/C85G2/Yojimbo-2-G-10-Black/707

Also weird looking, but it makes it not very Spyderco like...

For large folders it's really hard to beat cold steel so why not try to get some tiny little knives?  Spyderco makes some very decent tiny little knives like dragonfly(Japan),  Cat(Taiwan),  Dice(Taiwan),  Ambitious(China). Put it in your bag,  your purse,  your wallet,  your coin pocket as a very very final resort.

I know it's another fail.

haha.  LIke you I have no spydercos either.  Bought a few and sold them all, not for me.  Im picky about ergonomics and blade shape and havent found any I like.  I could live with the blade shape but the blade/handle geometry with the blade angled so forward I cant stand.  I dont want a folding kukri, I want the blade and handle in line.

I won't bore you with others  :D.  TBH Spyderco designs are ok.  They have great designers but when they add in the Spydie hole it kinda "ruins" it.  I know its their trademark and all but eh.

I've settle on 2 designs that I like but other than the 2 I mentioned I'm kinda bleh.

I hope someone who is more knowledgeable about Spyderco can entice you.

Agree, I like the style as well
The one I own was designed to be stylish, well it does look very good, it was a poor performer.

I would have gone with the Air if it weren't discontinued. Caly is made in Japan so no dice on that either.

Perhaps a Bradley folder 2. Simple, not too oddly shaped, CPM M4 is at the very least an interesting steel

+1. The SOG Mini Vulcan VL-04 is a sweet knife. Also, why not Japan-made knives? Most of my SOG knives are Seki, Japan. In fact, I sought them out.

I completely stopped buying any Japanese products about 15 years ago due to historical reasons. I can't explain it in detail on this forum.

It will be quite hard to find a Spydie with that length blade and mad in the USA. Let me look around though.

In the mean time here is a secondary option.   :D

Cant believe no one has done this one yet. It just screams KAMPFER!!!!!!!

Spyderco Szabo
S30v
Pretty big (4.6") blade
Taiwan (not japan) but it sure does look like a kampfer knife

https://www.amazon.com/SPYDERCO-Szabo-Folder-Laminate-Carbon/dp/B00DG8O4A0

Note: i believe that there is a version with a satin blade. Not positive though.
