I just experienced that Aloha.  I'm packing an SI today and took it out to cut something.  I never really noticed how SOLID this knife felt before.  They really are beasts!!

The alox sak's are pretty cool based on the different color choices available and I agree they are built tough but I never really warmed up to them as far as carrying them because of their limited tool sets available and I was to see the Pioneer X get released but sad to see that the nail nick is on the wrong side IMO.

Now if they had my fav sak the Explorer in alox or add the mag lens and inline to the Pioneer X, then I would probably have a couple of them and even the Swisschamp but they need to add the cutouts for the toothpick and tweezers that would be a plus!

I don't do plastic. The grip on the alox is fantastic even with wet hands. It's thin. It's probably the strongest scale material on slipjoints today. Certainly stronger than plastic, wood or bone.

I do wish that we didn't have to sacrifice the tweezers though.

+1 I love the different colors you chose.  :like:

On a side note. I think NorCalJim needs some OC in his life. Just throwing that out there.

Why choose Alox:

Beefier blade... superior awl... descendant of the soldiers knife... slim but robust construction... mystical feel... of course everyone mentioned these...

This ^

I love the combination of minimalism, durability, elegance and robustness.

I still remember when I saw an alox SAK for the very first time, around 1992. One of my schoolmates had a Pioneer. It was love at first sight, and I was intensely jealous. I eventually bought my first one at varsity in 1997, and have been carrying one ever since.

I always thought cellidor was cheap, despite the dozens of models I own and carry. But, I do like alox over it because it makes for a subjectively tougher knife. I like the way the scales feel. I like the weight of the knife. I don't think the thickness of the blade does anything for me- the grind on each type of blade is equally amazing. The inline awl is also amazing, although I've used it maybe half a dozen times in ten years. But, alox or cellidor or nylon, I love my two layered SAKs, particularly my SI and Recruit.
