Klecker Stowaway arrived today
on: February 25, 2017, 02:10:53 AM
After months of waiting, they arrived today.

In the phone case, top to bottom: knife, screwdriver, pliers and pen.

I had more photos, but I must have turned off the flash after these three, and the rest are blurry.
I'll retake tomorrow.

Initial thoughts:

A nice size, a little smaller than I was expecting.  Some look to be more useful than others.

The wrench sizes are pretty small, not sizes I would normally be fussing with.
The knife is a nice size, but might be a bit delicate in use.
Flashlight not too bright, not sure about how to change batteries.
The screwdriver is reminiscent of the Leatherman double ended bits.  Need to see if they are interchangable.
The pen is a little fussy to open/close.
Scissors do cut, but a little clumsy.
Pliers don't open much and don't lock completely closed.

More to follow.

Thanks for posting this.  I had been intrigued by this idea when I first heard about it.  I'm pretty interested in what you think of it all.  I'll be watching this thread....

First some close ups of the individual tools, followed by some comparison photos.

Flashlight, scissors, wrench, pliers.

The pliers have the cap to use with the phone case.

Case doesn't do much for me, but looking at some of the accessory tools they might be interesting. I like that mini magnesium/ferro rod they have on the web page, but my concern with small ferro rods like that I always wonder about how well they are put together.

Did you try the compatibility between the LM bits and these ones, particularly putting the LM bits into that holder.

The phone case is my preferred carry method for these tools.  To each their own.

No interchangeability.  Two problems, the LM bits are too short, and much thicker ( 0.125" for LM vs 0.075" for Klecker)

Interesting idea, quality made.

Nothing new in the way of tools/functions.  What really makes it stand out is the carry options, and modularity.  Most SAK/MTs are designed for use with little or no thought to carry.  Sure, a number of MTs have pocket clips these days, belt holsters and attachment points for a lanyard have been around for a long time.

The Stowaways were designed with carry method in mind.  There are three options plus anything you come up with on your own.  Let's look at the three options that the manufacturer offers:
  • Keybar - this seems to be growing in popularity, and if you carry your keys this way, the Stowaways are a nice way to slip a tool or two in with your keys.
  • Smartphone Case - this is the option that interests me the most.  Any four of the tools slip into the case, and you can easily change out which four you carry each day.
  • Carabiner - the least imaginative of the carry methods, it's practical and popular.  However, given the limitations of the size/form of these tools, if this is your preferred method of carry I think you're better off with a SAK or Squirt/Dime and a AAA LED flashlight on a suspension clip or carabiner.

An interesting idea and I hope they follow up with some truly innovative tools for the system.

Thanks for taking the time to do an overview.   Seems like this might be good 'gateway' tool for those of us that might like to coax our non-MT crazy friends/family into the fold.   :D

Bumping this thread with a question. How well do the drivers work with nothing else to hang on to?

All in all, the drivers are one of the better tools.  You're not going to put a huge amount of torque on them, but they work pretty well.
It's too bad the Leatherman bits don't fit.
