If I could find one at a reasonable price in the UK I would be very tempted, however it's just a little more than I am willing to spend on something I absolutely don't need, no matter how lovely it looks. :D

Traditional hand made, possibly with a leaf spring.

For 20 Euro, it looked OK to buy.  The maker has a good reputation.

I also have blades similar to dmanuel. :tu:

If Batangas have their balisongs and the South have their kris, the northern part of the Philippines
esp. the Ifugaos have these kind of blades:

Grooves  on the steel blade are from leaf springs.

I really don't have any fixed blades, besides my ka-bar which at first I used as a hidden blade on a larger backpack and sling, but it was too much. Other then that I have some double carry hunting and fillet knife for joining some magazine(junk) and what you see below, if that counts, it doesn't fold, and it cuts(seatbelts) lol, that one goes with me on my EDC bag,, cause that also pops tops if you noticed :D , nice thing is it's light, and fits perfect on any strap! I added the paracord and by doing so the end fits tight on the outside of the fist and gives that full size grip. JR

Have been going through a bit of a personal renaissance with my ontario ct1 machete

Here it is a few years ago with my eco-drives

and a quick photo today with my 18" 'Brasileiro'

What i love about the ontario is the 3mm 1095 blade. I often read about 'true machete users' favouring the 2mm or even 1.5mm blades. Personally i think it depends on what you are after. For me compact portability is a big concern and when you go shorter you can afford to go stouter. The ontario 12" has a similar weight to my thinner 18".

I have been reflecting on the little machete and decided its time for me to get round  to rehandling it with homemade micarta. One reason for the mod is i want the handles to be detachable. I still need to test the theory but since majority of the work done on longer machetes is only on the top 6" i figure i could fashion a longer handle from a sapling to improve reach/leverage if the regular need arises.

So far i have removed the handle and shaved off the jutting lower 4th rivet, still deciding on exact colours for handle

The Cudeman has seen quite some abuse action, easy to sharpen, and takes a good edge. Mt go to fixed blade if thing go rough. The Muella takes a good edge to, but besides sharpening a vampire stake, I have not used it that much.

I'm not sure how they are called in Spanish, but I do know a vampire stake and a big knife suited for zombieslaying are good to have around. Just in case you know.
