Just picked this up today, a Buck 679.  Canadian Tire had them on sale for $17.
...and you couldn't wait to get home to open it?

Like I'd be any different
At least I made it out of the store before I opened it!!

Thats a bargain!
Looking forward to hear what you think of it, after it has seen some use.

I wasn't planning on getting a knife, just went to the knife aisle as I always do, and saw that on clearance for $17.  I had to have one at that price!!  I've been wanting a smaller PE fixed blade for a bit, and this should fit the bill.

They actually had a bunch of folders, mostly Gerbers on clearance.  They had the SwissTool on for I think $49.  Their website is showing regular prices, so it must just be that store clearing out old stock.

I bet you're right, that's how I got the Gerber fixed blades and the cadet for 14 a piece.
I'm a total legend..... in my own mind- Herley

Anybody ever try flintknapping? I've always wanted to try my hand at it to make a fixed blade..

I have never tried it, but have wondered many times how a flint knife would work as a EDC knife.

Carrying one for a month would be a real Old School challenge :D

Oh heck yeah, but just to have nothing fancy just something with a 3-4" blade and a paracord wrapped handle, or even a leather wrapped, I think that would look awsome! Hey you'd never have to worrie about setting off any metal detectors!

I know that the Gerber BG stuff gets a pretty bad rap, but I have been batonning and splitting big logs for almost a year without any problems. This pic is from a recent woods expedition. I was knocking the branches off a fallen over tree. I could have used a heavier  knife or a hatchet, but I was running belt carry only because by 5.11 Rush 12 Backpack is coming in a few days. This Gerber is a beater blade for me.

Yep. Over priced at full MSRP, but people that I know that have caught it on sale say it's very good. Gerber Prodigy is the other fixed blade they make that has a good rep.   :tu:

I'm turning 40 in 2 weeks, gift was ordered in Feb and collected a few weeks ago.
I guess a link is a no-no, but if you google "camp gecko namibia" you can take a look at some of Rene's knives.

The blade was a rough cut out when I first saw it, D2, and big  8)
I held the giraffe bone the handle was made from, and I like all things brass, so.....  :gimme:

Thanks  8)

My first custom and obviously a bit expensive, but I can see why and for sure it's changed what I'll buy in the future.

It's meant to be a user, which I won't do, but I do appreciate things like the change in the grind to leave more meat and strengthen the tip.
I hope to spend a few weekends this year learning from the maker, sure love this one specific camping spot  8)
