A couple of new Cold Steel knives

They are actually older models, but I ordered them and got them in the last couple of weeks.
The classic Tanto: This one probably wont ever get used...just to pretty 


The second one is the Trailmaster. We just recently got a house and moved in. In the backyard is a tree that broke in half apparently during last years ice storm and nothing was ever done about it. Its not a really big tree but it would be an easy chore with a chain saw. Instead I am going to do as much of it as I can with the Trailmaster...funner that way. Will get some pics before, during and after.

I am really fond of Cold Steel and have a few of their blades now.  I also have a Trailmaster (Carbon V steel with brass guard) and it is just superb. 

The tanto really appeals to me as well.  Ideally I'd like the older San Mai version again with the brass guard.  Defender has that very knife and it sure is pretty.

You are lucky to have the Carbon V Trailmaster. My new one is a Chinese made version in SK-5 which is now discontinued. It seems they are going to stick with SK-5 but production maybe moving back to the States. My Chinese version seems very well built and I am interested to see how it does on the tree. I know the Chinese are capable of very good knives, hopefully that is the case with the Trailmaster.

I remember the Tanto with the brass fittings...even had one way back when. Polishing up the brass made those without a boubt the best looking Tanto's they ever made...wish they would bring back the brass.

I know what you mean, the brass looks so much nicer IMO.

Ooohh.. Those are some nice looking knives you've got there. That Trailmaster surely looks like it can get some serious beating, although at its price tag I'd rather cut down trees with some dedicated wood saw...

I'll be (only slightly ) off topic and (only slightly) hijack this thread, but I just couldn't help it: shouldn't fixed blades be in the same league as locking folders in the UK legislation?

Awesome knives there Richard, I used to have a Magnum Tanto and the way CS Tanto's catch the light is just gorgeous isn't it

Great knives Richard!  I really like CS knives, and I've abused the heck out of them over the years and they keep coming back for more.  The tanto series really is beautiful- lately I have been drooling over the Magnum Tanto XII, but for the kind of money they go for....



I have bought cars for less!

Ben- good luck finding one of those brass models.  Collectors have snapped them all up and locked them away!  It took me years to replace the one I had stolen form me, and that one in the picture was in sad shape when I got it.

The Trailmaster is nice, but if you really want a big blade for chopping, you need to get a Magnum Kukri Machete- likely the most blade you will ever get for $25!  (contact Tim at Felinevet@sosakonline.com for current pricing!)

Well, yesterday I did a bit of chopping trying to slowly take care of the broken tree in the backyard. I was only able to doit for about an hour as we just recently got moved in, my gloves are somewhere in an unknown box and it was 16 degrees out...cold on the hands.
Heres the tree:


The knife was new with the only thing being done before hand was a coat of Turtle Wax to prevent rust. After getting all the residue from the tree and the knife having gotten a little wet I did not clean it...just stuck it back in the sheath and left it. No rust at all and it cleaned up very easily. I have been using Turtle Wax on my knives for years...cheaper than most other metal polish and works great.
Anyways, pic of the knife before cleaning it off.
