New Gerber Stuff!
on: January 16, 2009, 05:30:07 AM
Gerber has some new tools out, and they look pretty cool.  I was especially impressed that there were no new Suspension clones like last year (Evo and RipStop) but that Gerber seems to be looking at tools people can actually use again!

The first is this tiny keychain tool called the Curve:

It's really tiny- small enough to fit on your keys unnoticeable until you need it.  The standard version has a small cutout to make it look pretty and reduce weight, and they have an engravable version without the hole.

Next up is a new version of the Flik, aimed at Fishermen:

The only differences between it and the regular Flik is the extended needlenose plier head and the hook disgorger on the file:

Next up is a couple of new keychain tools that will be replacing the Clutch and Shortcut:

Meet the Splice and Vice.  They have identical tool compliments, with the exception of the plier and scissor heads:

Note that Gerber redesigned the bottle opener to increase effectiveness- I can't comment on how well the new one works as I don't have a test subject yet, but it does look like it should be much more effective than previous models.

It's also a bit smaller than the Clutch and ShortCut, which is great for anyone who finds the older models too bulky for key chain carry.

Yes indeed, good to see no "new" Suspensions this year! :)

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

It does look like Gerber is trying new things with these new models. I like the look of them a lot. I still wish they would wise up and produce the Shard though!! haha

I just hope the Vice's tools are easier to get to than Clutch's.Those things could do a number on your nails.I think they just may have a winner in the Curve.

Is the phillip on them better formed? The one on my clutch blows, the two side protrutions aren't even centered on the driver head.

There's some nice looking stuff there. It's good to here that the Clutch and Shortcut replacements are to be smaller too, the size of the old tools meant they were never going to threaten the Micra or Squirt IMO.

That Curve looks nice too. Any suggestion of the RRP on that Def?
I used to come here a lot.

What no new Suspension. Come on say it aint so. You mean the daily email I end to all employees over there  worked. One year of solid email torture and they folded.

VIVA LA REVOLUCION!!

By the way steal me a splice.

Do the plier tips on the Fisher-Flik stick way out of the handles when closed?  (like they do on the 600-series Fisherman) :-\

No, the Phillips is still the same weird "almost a flat blade" type thing...

If I remember right, the Curve should run about $10 - $15

Yes, it does- it's the same as the Saf-T-Lock on all their other tools, only somewhat smaller!
