S4: Out of EDC
« on: January 29, 2009, 01:01:38 AM »
Well I've been EDCing my S4 for about the past month, and sadly, the scissors have left me disappointed. I've had them jam on fabric, and, most frequently, my frayed boot laces. I started to cut one lace, and as it jammed, I put the S4 down and went for my Vic Classic. Cut like a charm. It's too bad, because Leatherman really got their Blast and Juice scissors right, but the S4, it just ain't cuttin' it.

Isn't the S2 a Juice?

Your S4 wouldn't cut laces? What do you use as laces? Stringy Titanium? :D

That sounds really weird to me gaff - I have been EDC an S2 for about a week now, and in fact have used it to cut some frayed laces (spooky huh?). I'm delighted with it, and have for the time being at least retired my trusty Micra!

Are they blunted somehow?

My wife has an S4, which she loves. But when she cuts yarn with it, it seems too loose to me... she has to kinda pull on the yarn to get it to cut. That would drive me nuts- I'd probably send it back. But she loves it, so I don't say anything. :D

I know it's really weird, and I haven't really used them that much either. Might end up sending them in.

It might be worth checking out. I just managed to chop up some paracord with mine - no problem.

I have EDC'd an S4 for almost 2 months and haven't had any problems with them and they were even used when I got them  Perhaps they could stand a bit of sharpening :-\

I will admit that I hit them a few times on the old Sharpmaker the other day but they weren't really dull I was just sharpening them a little kinda touching up I guess ::)

If you have some sort of sharpener for them I would try that before sending them in :tu: if not I believe that it will have to make the journey west :D

Both sound like dull scissors, have you tried sharpen it?

No I haven't but I'm going to. I wasn't expecting them to be dull as I really haven't been carrying them save the past month or so.

Sharpening my micra is a pita, one of the reasons it's not part of my edc. The best scissors for tough material and cord are good old EMT shears, sak scissors come right after.

No, I haven't tried to sharpen it... I find sharpening Micras and S4 to be a real pain. But I think the problem is that the pivot is a bit loose. Actually, compared to my P4, all the tools on her S4 seem loose to me, :-\ but she doesn't seem to mind.

Has she ever knitted you a multitool cozy?
Hehe, no, though I'm sure she would if I asked her. And I'm sure it would take here no time at all, she knits things that size just to see if she likes the yarn. :P Hmm... A black felted sheath for my KF4 might not be a bad idea. :D
