Wave BO coating toughness
« on: February 08, 2009, 03:32:04 AM »
Hey guys,

I thinking or purchasing a Wave as a new user and I am wanting to know how tough is the BO finish??? Will it scratch off easy?

Also are there any good full size user MT's?

The BO coating scratches off extremely easy.. I would personally go with an SS Wave for a user!  :)

I've found it to be hit and miss.

I've got a late-90s Supertool that is like Jekyl/Hyde with the coating. One handle has a matte finish, is noticeably thicker and has chipped and scratched very easily. The other handle is dead flat, thin and has very little wear or finish damage.

I think the finish looks cool, and that's about it.  :)

Yeah, I've found that the black coatings seem to vary a bit too.

For example, on my BO Kick, Fuse and Blast, the finish is sort of "powdery" and is likely to scratch off pretty easily. Whereas, I have a BO Mini, where the finish is more like a glossy painted finish, and seems much more durable. It resembles the DLC coating on the Skeletool CX more than the BO on most LM tools. The finish on the 20th Anniversary Wave is more like the Mini too (although mine has apparently had a hard life and worn off anyway)!
