Anyone own one? I am interested in knowing if the fit and finish is as good as they look in pics?

Thanks

Hmm. I am not to happy with LM multi tools as I think their quality leaves a bit to be desired. With a folding knife the competion is even stiffer than mutitools. That is why I was aking if anyone has handled this knife in person.

Well wrong forum to make a point but lets say for instance to a Vic spirit multitool.

I don't want to get into a flame war over LM vs others. I just wanted to know if anyone has any first hand experience with this particular knife. I didn't want a braod answer like it is a LM so quality will be superb.

Heck after calling LM about a design flaw in one of their knifes there answer was "well knobody else complained" but the disign was obvious and they knew about it from the get go.

Although at the time you did say :

I think it was a kind and excellent response by LM. Considering they made a tool with a defect, they delt with it the best way possible.

... but I take your point ;)

I have been thinking about one of these knives for a while, I think I have a post in Tools Needed for one. I don't think they sell many of them tbh, I suppose because it is so specialised. The few comments I can recall seeing about them were favourable though if that helps - I don't recall anyne slating them.

The spec suggests that it's a very good knife.

Leatherman make Amazing Multitools but.......I bought a Leatherman C-302 knife and it is one the worst knives I own, it has tons of blade slop side to side and up and down. To take out the slop I have to tighten it so much it will hardly open and close the knife using 2 hands. And it cost me $60.00 CAN.
There tons of top notch knives out there If I were you I would be looking at some of the Benchmade or Kershaw Blades.
If your on a budget take a look at the Ontario Rat1, I have 3 and there all rock solid blades and you can find them at www.yourcornerstore.com for $25.00,( clearance price ) they used to be around $80.00
AUS 8 blade steel can keep a nice edge to. If you keep your blades razor sharp you will find that you will never use a small sharping rod out in the bush. Always take at least 2 knives with you if your hunting or camping, 1 all purpose blade, and 1 razor sharp blade for fine cutting.

When I go Camping or Hunting I take a Rat Cutlery RC-4 fixed blade and 1 of my Ontario Rat1's and my Leatherman PST2 now replaced with the Wave...
I will add you gotta bring along a Leatherman into the bush, I used my PST2 to death and its still going strong.... :salute:

If you really interested in a Leatherman knife get one in your hands first, and give it an up close look...The Klamath is a very nice looking piece and beefy..( 8.6 oz )... I would even add one to the collection but.......... I got  "Blade sickness" and the "Leatherman sickness" so I'm hopeless   >:D

I don't have a c302, but I have a c301, c303, c308 and I find them to be excellent knives, but they are definitely not comparable to the bigger hunting knives at all.

Remember that the c302 is (was to be correct) Leatherman's second cheapest knife, the Klamath is at the opposite end of the spectrum.

Sounds like good advice to me!

So no one's actually handled this particular knife? :-\

I'm pretty sure that I briefly handled one a while ago when I was at the factory store. I know I remember playing with the "fixed" blade knife, and I remember being pleased with the quality of the knives, though I can't get much more specific than that. I can tell you that they are big, though.

I've got one of each hunting knife on display in my display case.  I can fondle one for you and report back any particular questions.  They feel very high quality and the fit and finish is very good.  But I'm not a hunter or big knife guy so I don't have a huge base on which to compare it.  And don't worry I'm not the kind of guy that would blow smoke about a product just because I sell it.  If it's crap I'm the first to say so.  I've had a few hunting buddies stop in and look at them and they thought they were pretty nice as well.

I have the fixed blade with reosewood handle inlays and it is very well bilt but I do not have the particular model you mention. generally I ahev found less blade play in my leatherman tools than in the Swiss tools. maybe I got some duds?

The nice thing about Leatherman is their warranty. If it's not right, send it in and they will exchange the item or fix the problem. Also, the nice thing about dealing with eLeatherman.com is that Rob would probably inspect the item prior to shipping if you asked nicely. I'm not saying Rob will do that, but I bet if you're polite he'd help you out.

This is precisely the right forum to say it. I agree, Victorinox finish is superior. Still, I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss Leatherman quality. All the ones I've seen performed flawlessly, and that's what counts.

I have had more than one design flaw and maunufacturers defect with LM. Also LM's rust easy (a problem they could easily solve). I even saw 4 or 5 Waves at Target that were rusted in the bubble packs.
