Hollywood is planning to make a new MacGyver movie.

The big question is: will he still be using SAKs?
Personally I hope he will. But I'm worried they might try to make some money by selling the rights for "the MacGyver tool" to the highest bidder. If they do I hope one of the serious brands gets the deal. (and if Gerber gets it, I hope they dont print Macgyver on the suspension and try sell it as the ultimate MacGyver tool :twak:)

The only practical MacGyver tool is a Swiss Champ ;)
-
I think he should carry the Explorer. :tu:
-
Nah, he's going to do his magic with a one piece tool. :D
-
Probably not. The question has popped up, and the creator's answer was something along the lines of "SAKs were good for their day". :twak:
I would expect a Leatherman, or some line of tools stamped "McG" instead of "BG".
-
:bnghd:
-
At least keep it Swiss and give the man a Swisstool Spirit!

My sentiments exactly Sawman!¡! One of two SAKs that I do own is a Swiss Champ and I love it!¡!

Leatherman is quite proud of the fact that some time in the 7th season Mac used a Leatherman. I haven't seen the episode myself, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear Leatherman is doing their best to chase this one down.

Really? Thats cool, but I for sure never noticed. What would be the likely leatherman model from 1992? I should rewatch those for nostalgia sometime.
-
I think that blurb by Leatherman, about MacGyver carried a leatherman in 1993 was meaning the actor himself carried it as a cycling tool, which I found a reference too, but he never used it on the show.
Edit: Ok you had me super curious on this one. I found a reference to a PST being used in season three.. but by the enemy chick trying to kill MacGyver, not by Mac. Very telling eh, the good guy using a SAK, the evil woman using a Leatherman! :pok:
I just confirmed it, I looked up the episode on netflix, here are some screen caps. She uses a PST to install some device in an electrical outlet.
-
The semi-retired Mac is still carrying a Sak.

I REALLY wish they would leave this franchise alone if Richard Dean Anderson and Lee Zlotoff are not involved. I like the older Mac.

You watching Netflix through a proxy IP? I don't see it on Netflix Canada?

Ya I use unblock-us , extra 5 bucks a month, but it works. I can pick netflix Canada, US, UK and others.
-
I may have to try that. I have been thinking about giving it a shot but never got around to it.

Let me put it this way: If it's not a SAK or swiss tool then I am boycotting the movie
-
This seems relevant, but I'm not able to play it, so I have absolutely no idea what is said: http://gizmodo.com/386970/quote-would-a-modern-day-macgyver-still-use-a-swiss-army-knife (http://gizmodo.com/386970/quote-would-a-modern-day-macgyver-still-use-a-swiss-army-knife)

I would like to see him carry the Wenger Giant !
-
He needs to carry a modded sak alox from syph :). That way he gets all the tools he needs ;)
-
My prediction is that it'll be a Gerber special edition 'McGyver Ultimate Multitool'... which, of course, is actually a Suspension with bright red plastic handles.
-
The SAK is such an iconic part of MacGyver I would hope the makers would be sensible enough to keep it. It would be like making the A-Team without the GMC van. ::)
-
Modern remakes don't really seem to care much about tradition when it comes to the classics they are ripping off. I'm kind of surprised the General Lee in the Johnny Knoxville remake of the Dukes of Hazzard hadn't been swapped out for a modern Dodge... or even a Honda Civic. After all, Bumblebee was named that because he was a yellow VW Bug- the name doesn't make much sense if he's a Camaro.
It'll all boil down to whatever company ponies up the most cash for the production company.

That would be so true! If he had one of his, the show might still be on! LOL
-
I'm betting it'll be a Powerlock that he'll get in the movie from "Gunny" doing a cameo....

Thanks for the link. It was fun to see Mac again.

I thought the makers of transformers asked VW if they could use the new Bug and they said no as they didn't want the VW brand associated with violence.
-
You never know these days what the reasoning is. My guess is VW didn't want to be associated with those awful movies. :P

A very savvy move on their part then. :D

So is the movie going to be made? I haven't been following the news on it.
-
Last I checked, Zlotoff (who owns the movie rights) was still working with others on the script. The movie is coming from New Line Cinema.
In 2012-2013, Zlotoff co-wrote a MacGyver miniseries for Image Comics. Mac carried an unspecified Swiss Army Knife. It was fun.
-
I think it was the Victorinox Unspecified that he carried through most of the old TV show too, wasn't it? :D
Or was it the Wenger Generic....
Def
-
He used a wide variety of Vics--especially Spartans and Tinkers, I think. The knife in the title sequence is a Wenger, though, and in the series finale he uses an ironic knockoff.
-
Yeah, you should probably not take most of my posts seriously.... :D

Until now, I was unaware of the exceptional amount of time and energy people have spent trying to identify every single knife (or knives, occasionally) he used in every single episode. It's amazing in exactly the sort of way I should probably try to avoid.
-
It's got to be a SAK. I was just watching the old episodes on Netflix. Such a good show. I wouldn't mind if they updated it a little and he was rocking a Vic MT but other than that I'm not interested.
-
Imagine if they gave him a Gerber or a SOG that no one would think to tie with MacGyver

hahaha true. I guess it was more about McGyver's character which leaned toward being the peacemaker/pacifist type. I still remember that It's always been a swiss army knife for Mac & a Switchblade for Murdock (his Arch-nemesis).
On knife identification, there's also a part of the intro where you will see the orange peeler/screwdriver from a victorinox executive protruding from his hands while opening a film vial

It just wouldn't be the same if Mac didn't carry a SAK. No MT for him! :)
I thought there was a movie in the making. Did it get sidelined or what?
My wife found the whole series on dvd plus the movies and some extra's awhile ago while for $60 at a FYE store and bought them for me!
The best two weeks ever was watching them all in order including the movies! LOL

I watched the A-team like that. I bought the whole set, and it came in BA's van
(http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/graphics/news3/TheATeam_CompleteLE.jpg)
back on subject, I love macGyver, and he always amazed me as a young adult. I also noticed the A-team would sometimes be very MacGuyver'ish with their plans
-
I picked my first sak while watching the MacGyver shows and it was the small Tinker, which I still have! Now I carry the Explorer Plus most of the time.
I was in a FYE with the wife browsing around and came across the movies and shows on dvd's so I seen the MacGyver sitting there on the shelf in season 5, I think it was and thought about getting it because it was only about $17 for the one season. Anyway, decided not to and said that I would look for the whole series and they had them in a different spot so I asked the worker if they had a full set and she found one but is was marked $149 or $159, cant remember exactly but she said she would scan it to see if it is on sale and guess what $59.99 so before I could say "sweet", my wife says "we'll take it". The rest is history! :D
I still dont think he would use a MT but if he did, it would have to be a Vic one! LOL

From checking an internet site about MacGyver, I understand that his most commonly used tool was a Victorinox Spartan (like the one I carry everyday), Victorinox Spartan with a Tiny Screwdriver inside the corkscrew is the Myopic Schoolteacher Total Ultimate Survival Tool. :tool: :D
