Very nice, but not quite up my alley.  Part of the charm of Opinels is the old-school wood handles you can customize.  Neither of my Opis is the same color that that they left the factory as....  :)

Uh, it's kind of cool, sort of. But I have to ask, why?

It must be a beech in the cold winter, or if it's been sitting in the sun on a summers day while fishing. And I have to wonder how slick it gets if you have wet or cold hands?

I'll stick with the wood. If Opinel wants to do something in the right direction, why not just make zytel handles like Cold steel had on the twist masters, or the new outdoor Opinel?

Interesting that we have so many folks who cannot get enough Alox when it comes to SAKs, but the moment we see it on something else the reception is a lot more....meh.  BTW I kinda feel the same. :D

I think if it was textured like an alox SAK, it would probably draw more oohs and aahs.

I think it's a matter of apples and oranges.

The SAK is a tool, and for a SAK, alox scales look at home on them. PLus, the scales are thin, relatively, so there is nbot much weight increase. But a handle the size of, say a number 8 Opinel, is a quite large chunk of metal, even if it's light weight metal, and it;s gonna be heavy. Plus the grip quality in adverse conditions.

It just doesn't look right there. It's like a nice old side by side English shotgun, case hardened receiver with nice colors, but a black plastic stock on it instead of a nice English walnut. It would be so wrong on so many levels. Like puting mags on a nice restored old Hudson Hornet.

My first thoughts when I saw the title of this thread. Very nice but I would imagine a problem with the metal and cold weather would arise. Something to think about when I go to get an Opie though.

I think the price is a bit OTT.

The Outdoor version costs about half of that and so do the 8s with fancy wood handles. In general fancy wood costs more than aluminium in knives.

Maybe we need a titanium version!

$70 for an Opie is getting up there  :o.

Be interesting to know the weight & balance of this showy Opie

I can only think of two things when I look at this- northern forest cold and sunny desert hot. Neither one of which is a problem with wood.

But it does look kinda neat.
