Still haven't got to carry the Champion I got for my birthday in September, so what's another month going to hurt. I'm in
I'm not committing to anything yet since I want to know a bit more about "the rules" but I did just get a Spirit XC from my local eBay affiliate and I'm super impressed with it so far.
Is this challenge strictly to use the spirit and nothing else for the month, or can we have another knife with us? :pok:
My Spirit has the butter blade so I usually carry another knife with it for the simple cutting jobs.

I'm in, thanks for the giveaway Obi! (I might not be able to post a photo every day due to traveling and Flickr tending to be crap around holidays, but I will take a photo every day and upload it as soon as I can.) I'm gonna take this opportunity to become more familiar with my butter blade, in lieu of the plain edge I typically prefer.

Yeah, it is. The BO on the CC X is shinier and seems closer to a DLC (though I'm sure it's not). The S looks blacker and more matte.Matte finish looks cool... cc X is the recently released one?
Same as the XBS, but I bought it last year as 3.0224.3CCH with the OD green pouch. My .3CCH XBS came with nylon pouch. Not that it matters... hahaha

My wife got me this bright light to stop me turning into a manic depressive during the dark months in Northern Europe.
So I stuck my Swisstool Spirit on there. Along with a Spitfire which, God knows why, was lying around on my table.

Day 1Nicely done, do the logo on one of the handle as well, so you know which side the blade is on.
I took a que from someone on here (Kampfer I believe) and painted the red. It was as simple as adding a bunch of red nail polish and then curing of the excess with a razor blade. The effect is quite striking.

I can't take credit for the idea, I saw it somewhere else. It was really easy, just force the scissors open past the spring then grind down the little nub (technical term). Then pop back into place and you have marginally wider opening scissors!

Powernoodle Day 4.
Great pictures guys!
@Fortytwo,
Interesting to hear about the scissors. I sometimes wonder about getting a Spirit with scissors as they're things I need every day but I'd probably regret it if they are really rubbish.
Am I better off just sticking to the scissors on a Classic? (I have a nice Alox Classic so it's not like a big burden.)
cheers for keeping score, delighted to see I am in first place...tied with everybody else!
Nails: Classic wins hands down. Zip-ties: Spirit wins. Small threads etc: Probably a tie.
Day whatevah

I find the Spirit scissors are more like mini snips than scissors. They're stiffer and more positive than on a 91mm SAK (or the Swisstool, for that matter) and although they don't open very wide, how often do you actually need to cut really thick material? I do find the left-handedness of the scissor frustrating sometimes, but really only when I'm cutting my nails - and the Rambler on my keys works much better for nails anyway.
If you want to widen the scissors it's a pretty easy mod to do.

Powernoodle Day 8.
As the owner of a (broken) lawnmower I am completely confused by your need to run out of petrol and the role of that piece of twine in the whole scenario, but the picture's good!Yes, these Vic serrations are very satisfying cutting any fibrous material! Emptying the gas is something my dad always told me to do. I believe the purpose is to keep the ethanol from deteriorating parts inside. The twine circumvents the safety switch (you gotta keep the bar held down or else the engine stops).
The butter blade is the most satisfying twine-cutter in the world...
Gasoline left sitting in the fuel tank for months thickens into what repairmen call varnish. The ethanol in today’s gas also stiffens rubber and plastic parts and coats linkages. Some people have success adding fuel stabilizer to gas—some are designed to counteract ethanol’s effects—and storing it that way. For the most assurance, add the proper amount of stabilizer or instead pour in some ethanol-free fuel (available for about $6 a quart at some outdoor-gear dealers, Sears, and home centers) and run it dry. Once the machine cools down, drain the carburetor bowl, too; a simple bolt holds it in place. Have gas left over in the can? Add it to your car’s fuel tank and buy fresh gas for your leaf blower or snow blower.
Emptying the gas is something my dad always told me to do. I believe the purpose is to keep the ethanol from deteriorating parts inside. The twine circumvents the safety switch (you gotta keep the bar held down or else the engine stops).Brilliant! Thanks for the explanation!

If the Swiss tools were as adaptable and easily taken apart as the SOG powerlocks they probably wouldn't be as durable, but the possibilities would boggle even Obi1. Day 10I wonder if LM's extender meant for the juice lines and models with the 3D phillips could fit on the spirit's phillips...
So, a third of the way in and no problems so far. Was lucky enough to have a guest who appreciated my (for this forum) modest collection of tools. It was nice getting them out in the fresh air. I should probably get rid of some that I'll never use (Suspension comes to mind).
Back on topic the drivers on the Spirit are really nice, with good reach and nice sizes. Is it enough though? Philips are getting less common and flats are getting positively rare on new things. The only way to accommodate all the modern shapes is through the use of bits and it doesn't seem like any of the big four have really found the solution for that. With the new Gerber Center-Drive they now have for distinct solutions for the same problem, all with their own pros and cons.
I believe SOG has the cleanest solution with their PowerPlay and Reactor but from reviews it seems like there is a long way to go to an actually useful tool. Victorinox simply drops the pretence of a multitool solution and admits that once you start carrying a bit kit a small dedicated ratchet might be the reasonable solution. Gerber have been going out on a limb in their advertisement for the Center Drive since it's certainly not the first centred drive (SOG has that honour) and is in fact not even centred! Leathermans proprietary solution is really nice and allows you to carry plenty of bits in a small space, until you realise the price of replacing a single bit (especially in Europe). Their older Tool Adapters are probably just as interesting imho, allowing you to use the main multitool as a handle for better grip to get a truly centred driver (this is what the SOG solution wanted to be, except without the extra bulk).
Oh,well, I'm rambling on, here's today's picture.

Pretty dog, what kind is she? My dog of nearly 14 years passed away in March. I had her before I even met my wife. We've been married 11 years and have two children now. We will be getting another one soon, not sure what kind though. Sadie was a black lab so we lean toward another since she was such a wonderful dog.

The Powernoodle clan has been watching Lost on Netflix. It doesn't seem that time matters much there either.

[Is Lost] Any good?
[Is Lost] Any good?
I would not be watching it, except that my 15 year old is into it. Its just very strange. I think that most sci-fi guys would like it. Its just plain strange, and sometimes a little hard to follow. Halfway through the series, a character named Hurley gives a 90 second recap of the entire plot line, and things start to fall into place after that.
I enjoyed Lost initially, but it became a chore towards the end. I had to keep watching it trying to get a sense of closure. At least you can binge watch on netflix so you're not wasting 3 years of your life waiting for that resolution. It's probably better if you binge watch because you won't forget stuff and then you're sitting there wondering what is going on half the time. The forgetting what was going on was especially bad between seasons because it was one of those shows where they took almost a year between seasons.

The Spirit is my favorite MT but I'm struggling to find inspiration for photos. Actual tasks that I can do with a multitool seem to come in batches but then I've got nothing. I walked around my yard with the Spirit in my hand for about half an hour before I saw the sunlight on this rock and decided it would make a good backdrop for today's picture.

I too find myself not using the Spirit enough to really warrant a month of pictures (this is why I carry a much smaller and lighter tool normally). But I would like to address these holes here, I know, they are for the corkscrew, but seriously? The corkscrew only? Why did they bother? I saw the topic in the Mod-squad about the carry-loop but why is there no more official uses for these? An carry solution using them? A bit driver? Anything really, it seems like some engineer at Victorinox had a good idea but then nobody wanted to make anything more out of it.
