Australian Army Issue Torch/Flashlight
on: December 04, 2009, 04:39:24 AM
The seller who I nabbed an Army Issue SwissTool also had this X2 AA  torch for sale & I am a sucker for combined post  ::) :D :D.

The globe is not so powerful.

Initially I thought the green lens was one that just snapped in place , but it appears to be like a shroud around the globe & separate from the flat lens  :o .
The green lens is that for safe night vision   .

I have included the last 3 pics in the hope that someone might be able to ID the make of torch as I can not find any manufacture markings.
If anyone could give me any info about this torch I would be grateful  :D

Like I said it does not seem a very bright torch & the switch is a bit temperamental  :D :D.
But the BO Australian Army Issued SwissTools have been a passable quality, if not for the slippery drivers & one of them had RUST  :P :D :D :ahhh.
If only the OZ military had used a quality MT like Leatherman  :P >:D :D :D :D

Nifty site John  :tu:

I like your find MM, it's not a bad looking torch. The green light is cool too, is that for night vision then? I thought red was used as it doesn't pick up on night sights and stuff.... isn't green the wrong end of the spectrum or does it work the same way? I suppose anything non-white works to not ruin your own night vision to some extent

Any dim light will aid to preserve night vision but red can be used at slightly higher output and as far as I know red remains king  :D

FWIW a dim red light is harder to see at a distance than other coloured lights I read some years ago  ;)

if your using white light you need something like under 1/2 a lumen or 0.5 or less 0.2 lumen :D

That thing looks like it could very well be used as a Maglite club or hammer if push comes to shove. Too bad it's incandescent, though I'm sure mods exist out there.

No idea mate hopefully John will get some joy via his email  .
I would be a little surprised if it was made in OZ.

I don't think any are made in Australia but the Energizer double barrel is designed there(Flashlight made in China bulb made in USA or Hong Kong.)

I don't think it's intended to be very bright. I thought I read somewhere that green was good for reading maps because it makes the different lighter shades of colors often used on maps pop out a bit more making it easier to see. If this light was intended as a "map reading" light then you wouldn't really want it very bright.
