What Neil has coming too him!!
on: February 08, 2010, 09:26:04 AM
Funny thing happened on Ebay the other day  :P :D :D.
I thought this auction included a Vic Knife & a Vic branded torch. Knife was just your run of the mill 'Afternoon Tea knife' or something like that :P :D. I was a bit disappointed , after the auction had ended I read the description properly ::) ::) the torch was a no name non LED torch :(, $25aus delivered not too bad a deal. Entirely my fault not reading the auction description properly.

Anyways this ;

Lead Too THIS : :o :D :D

It is a handful.

This fan dangled contraption is a diamond wheel capillary column cutting device(OBVIOUSLY  :P :D :D) once you have cut your column you then have a good old look at the end of said cut column to make sure it is a jolly good cut with the magnifying glass :D.

These are a Ferrule remover tool & a Septum hook tool(NOT FOR NOSES ;) :D)

This is a Round file(finally something that sounds like a normal tool :D :D).

OK WTF is it , not really sure  :D :D. The box calls it a GC LabMaster Tool with Capillary Column Cutter on the tool it is a 'Shortix Plus'. Apparently it came from The Netherlands , I suspect Wenger did their thing & then the Dutch did their bit (the specialty tools) & then it found its way to OZ.
The little research I did , suggests this SAK would be used by a science lab worker in the field of gas/liquid Chromatography.
The big question is this SAK more speSmurfpillsed than Def's toilet roll SAK  :P :P

The other question  how did my SAK 'croissant' knife :P :D & torch lead to the Lab SAK. The Aussie ebay seller of the SAK & torch noticed my ebay purchases seemed to favor knives & MT's ::) :D :D. He contacted me & asked if I wanted any of his other knives. I said probably not but I will ask a buddy who is nutty for SAKs(Neil). Deal done couple of other knives & Neil has this odd SAK awaiting for him :D :D :D.

Mat's always good at looking after me  :drink:

This is as good a time as any to mention again that I really am very grateful to all the folk on this forum that help me out.  Since the UK/Ireland ebay sharps ban it has become very difficult to get hold of collectable SAKs.  Thank you one and all

Mat it reminds me of a wenger tool chest tho I've not seen one like yours before,

I cant help thinking tho the implement holder reads like a dentists x-RAY

upper left 1,3 and 7 missing

upper right 4 and 6 missing

lower left 8 and 12 missing

lower right 9,13 and 14 missing

   :D

I like the analogy :D

I suspect the reason for the gaps is that it reuses the tool carrier from a Minathor.

It is funny Chako when the seller sent me the photos I did not give them a good look & I thought it was just another SAK  :o :D :D :D. It is funny how it ended up , initially disappointed in the torch . Seller notices my buying patterns & offers me the rest of his brothers knife collection, that was no longer wanted. Neil gets one of his rare birds. Must of been fate :D :D :D.I doubt there is another in Australia.

I did not do too badly , I got this Case knife for a bit of a bargain in the same deal  8) 8)

Found a press release for the Shortix Plus knife, which also highlights another couple of oddball laboratory SAKs.

Revolutionary Tools from Scientific Glass Technology

And the Wikipedia entry over gas-liquid chromatography, just in case you ever want to get into the field so you can use the knife :)

Wow!! That thing (whatever it is!) looks pretty awesome! :tu: I'll bet Neil can't wait to cut up a bushel of capillary columns with it. :D

Well I have just emailed SGT to inquire about availability and information. Only time will tell if I get a response, and what that response may contain.
