Universal Tool Adapter

It's no longer listed on Leatherman's website; did they discontinue the newer iteration of it?

The things they have now seem to be the Bit Extender, the Bit Kit, and the Removal Bit Driver.  You can still find the Universal Tool Adapter if you look around...even in Amazon.

Amazon has one listed for an insane >$60.  The rest are simply cases for the UTA.  eBay has some listed, but for MSRP or more, too; it's not worth $40 to me; closer to $20, sure, but not the old-standard price of a Blast.  :o

You know it's weird, the picture actually shows two different adapters in it, and it's the stock Leatherman photo:

http://leathermanlibrary.com/displayimage.php?album=42&pid=1153#top_display_media

EDIT: I see now, the stock photo is representative of the different variations of the UTA. But the part number at Hamilton looks like the most recent one.

EDIT2: If you Google the image of the part number, 65070301K, the pictures mostly show the last one LM released.

A note, when purchasing as Universal Tool Adapter be sure that you get the newer version for newer tools.  The original version will not fit the Surge at all and some tools it will not fit correctly and be either too loose or too tight.

This is my Universal Tool Adapter, fits nearly all my Leatherman multitools: Juice, Charge/Wave, Surge.

To give you a proper visual

3 positions. Mine is coded 0901. Took a while to find one, think it was under $30 too.

That is the older version known as the Standard Tool Adaptor. The newer version is called the Universal Tool Adaptor.

Thank you so much, zoidberg! The case only mentions Tool Adapter Case with Clip.

It's being sold locally for $48. Too much?

If you only lived in the USA ... as I've got a Tool Adapter for Wave in the box still, although the box is not in prime condition. Have used it on many other tools other than the Wave, like a KF4.

Don't have as many photos after a recent hard drive failure, but have a few.

Oh sorry. I wasn't clear. I'm helping a friend sell some of these to our local Leatherman Facebook group and I'm trying to accurately determine its compatibility with certain models.

I found out from this thread that UTA is more compatible than 1st Tool Adaptor.

Not sure what these Tool Adapters sold for originally, but the one I have has a sticker of $27.95 ~ probably cause the box wasn't primo condition, although the tools inside looked new and had the original literature. I should probably list this thing for sale on ebay... not used it other than photo ops.  ;)

I found out from this thread that UTA is more compatible than 1st Tool Adaptor.

As you seem to have found out, the early version only worked on MTs with narrow handles (eg LM's PST), the later version was able to be used with MTs with wider handles  (eg Wave, Charge and other brand MTs as well).

True, for collectors they'll pay higher but for those users with old model LMs, they'll think really hard if they want to buy the old adaptor, I guess

PSTs here are around $45, cheaper than the old adapter's price
