Here's the story:

Wow, that's pretty amazing.  I would have never guessed the Alox would look like that after that many years.  It's got a certain historical beauty to it.   

I don't know that I could last that long.  Somewhere at the point where I damaged the blade I might have bought another one.  Maybe it served as a reminder though to make sure the power was off?  or it served him some purpose?

It's  to see knives that have led a full and active life, the wear on those scales is far more than I thought would happen 

It's also a bit  when you see some damage/abuse/mishaps like the shorting out on the blade

Yes, the Alox line started in 1957, but this model with the newer style awl started in 1960/61.

1) NEVER let facts get in the way of a good story.

2) The original owner may have simply misremembered.

I got a SOG Crosscut in the 90s, and can't for the life of me remember even within a few years of when.  My guess is 95'-97' or thereabouts, but I really don't know. And that was only 15-17 years ago.

The owner of this pocket knife might have also had another one similar to this that he's confusing with this one, which he DID have earlier. Who's to say?

In any event, yeah, this knife was a daily carry. It looks like whoever owned it got their money's worth of work from it. besides the damage to the blade, it also has that olde-tyme thinning of the blade from a zillion resharpenings, or looks like it to me.

hmmm, seems a reasonable conclusion to me, from the looks of things he must have used the blade to harness the lightning bolt to charge the flux capacitor. He must have astounded SAK collectors from 1957 with the futuristic newer style non-cut-out awl and slightly deeper red anodized scales.

It does look like it had a shock to that blade though - I have an old bread knife here somewhere which cut through a live cable with me on the other end of it.... looks a little like that!

With my EDC Executive I cut thru an extension cord w/o unplugging it (my wife had hit it with the mower) - zapped an arc-shaped gap on the sharp of the blade - decided to make some more arcs with a roto-tool for a half-serrated blade.  Less good at opening mail now...
