4mm, but its going to get bored out to 3/16.  I want a detachable pocket clip and lanyard attachment option.   Plus all MTs should have pivots you can take apart.

spirit is so damn near perfection, difficult to imagine an improvement, and one that would warrant the effort of modding.

But always worth doing it for fun, or to push boundaries!

Near perfection, yes, but I hate the scissors on it, they open to small. I'd want the 91mm Vic scissors on it.

Actually I agree with the scissors thing, they are pretty terrible. But I don't believe it is because they open too small. Have they got the two sides the wrong way around, and too thick at the pivot?

I don't know what I would do with it. I need good parts to keep and just OK parts to fabricate upgrades for. On SAKs it's so obvious what needs to go. This not so much. The screw pivots are a good idea but I'd want to fab a super steel blade, LM bit driver and T-shank holders for it while I was under the hood. Or maybe figure out how to mod all those extra 93mm saw blades to fit since we both have an endless supply of them.

I really want one of these so I can get out the leather making box and make up one of these for it. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y112/marrrtin/LeathermanTechnicalPouch03.jpg

And then attach it to a custom Gransford Bruks ax sheath. Seems like the ultimate woods kit to me.

Ya I dont know that there is much to upgrade.  I love the tool as it comes, but I really like to either have a pocket clip and/or lanyard option. So at minimum I want to have a small tab I can screw on, that I can then attach a lanyard, or a pocket clip.  Im not a sheath guy for the most part, so I need a way to attach the tool to me.  Thats been the only big con for me, other than that I love the tool.

This looks like it could get interesting. :) Let me know if you'd like a 3/16 carbide reamer.

Bob's mod was one I was drooling over when I first found this site.   :tu:   I'm not up to the stage of making my own blade yet, but I have been contemplating the best way to rearrange parts to get the knife on the other side, and add a thumb stud for OHO.  It's doable, but I have to work out which compromise is best to maintain the springs width per tool issue.  At a minimum though I want to at least upgrade both tool ends to pivot screws, and get a pocket clip on there, or lanyard point.

Well I wasn't kidding about burning through some mods this week, so to keep on pace here is the latest.

Tools and frame drilled out to 3/16, sanded and polished.  I cut the 3/16 pivot down to size and gave that and it's screws a shine.

Test fit for length, looks good!  :tu:

Installing was a breeze, since I made sure all the inner holes were super smooth, it just slid together.

I didn't do this mod ONLY to add a lanyard attachment point, but it is my preferred carry method, so for now that's likely all I will do with it.  Well that and I was going to grind on the scissors to have them open up more since its easy to get access when the tool is apart and the spring comes right off.

I still want a pocket clip option too, so that on the todo list.  This is my 'user' spirit so I wasn't afraid to just go for the mod.  The funny thing is this is really a part 2 of the very first mod I ever did on this site back in Oct 2011.

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,32268.msg533662.html#msg533662

That paracord didn't last long, so this is a much more secure upgrade to it.

Cheers!
